The theme's start in 2020 suggests that in 2024, it will only be four years old. However, that's only true in part of the world.
When you are born in China, you count as one year old. Considering the deep connection ELGO Monkie Kid has to Chinese legends, it only makes sense that the theme is counted as one year older too, especially as it was likely in development for more than a year. This is likely the real explanation behind the theme's fifth anniversary in 2024.
However, there's another potential reason for the theme to celebrate its fifth anniversary in 2024 that may make more sense for those outside of China. In 2019, 71025 Series 19 launched with a piece and minifigure that would kickstart LEGO Monkie Kid – the original Monkey King.

The theme's origins can be traced back to this minifigure the year before it debuted and – as well as the nominal age system in China – is a sufficient explanation behind the theme. To some, it's educational too and showcases another way that LEGO Monkie Kid has familiarised worldwide fans with Chinese culture.
