LEGO Lunar New Year 2024 set debuts possibly the biggest dragon ever 

The LEGO Group’s love of dragon models has a chance to shine in 2024 with the Year of the Dragon and what may be the biggest LEGO dragon.

One of four LEGO sets launching in 2024 for the new year in China, and part of the annual LEGO Chinese Traditional Festival range is 80112 Auspicious Dragon. At 1,171 pieces for £69.99 / $89.99 / €79.99, it's the smaller of the two LEGO Chinese Traditional Festival sets for 2024.

However, it may just be the biggest LEGO dragon by piece count ever designed.

80112 Auspicious Dragon is an ideal set for the Year of the Dragon in 2024, depicting a traditional Chinese dragon rife with details and exclusive printed pieces. At 1,171 pieces, the set has the most LEGO elements out of any dragon-centric set too.

LEGO NINJAGO is home to many dragons big and small though in recent times, the theme has consistently beat its own records for the biggest dragon build. Officially, the biggest LEGO NINJAGO dragon model is 71774 Lloyd’s Golden Ultra Dragon with the vast majority of the 989 piece count going towards the dragon.

While that's fewer parts than 80112 Auspicious Dragon overall, the rocky base in the Chinese Traditional Festival model likely takes up a considerable amount of parts. However, it's still undoubtedly one of the biggest LEGO dragons ever.

Looking at the other large dragon models in NINJAGO with comparable piece counts, it's unclear if 80113 Family Reunion Celebration is the biggest LEGO dragon by piece count, though it's still interesting to see a non-NINJAGO model earn a spot near the top of the list. It being a Year of the Dragon model is all too suitable as well.
