Spending a night at the Natural History Museum… for LEGO

From creepy-crawlies to a prehistoric pursuit, join Brick Fanatics for a night at the Natural History Museum in celebration of the latest LEGO modular building…

10326 Natural History Museum’s launch is just around the corner – it lands on shelves December 1 – and to celebrate the release of the 19th modular building, the LEGO Group invited Brick Fanatics (and around 30 other people) to stay over at the real Natural History Museum in London. This is an event the museum regularly hosts, but typically for 300 to 500 people at once – and without the LEGO twist the museum’s staff put on for me and YouTube editor Matthew late last week.

The evening’s entertainment included a three-course dinner (three thumbs up), a LEGO workshop (in which I was dubiously awarded the title of ‘master builder’), a live animal show (no tarantulas, thanks) and a pub quiz (we did badly, but do you know how many LEGO pieces it would take to reach the moon?). We also found plenty of ways to entertain ourselves with an empty museum to explore, including seeking out real-life versions of the exhibits from the LEGO Natural History Museum.

Bonus: we gave away a free ticket to the event to Brick Fanatics reader Lee, who brought along his son Ewan for the experience. They helped us out during the LEGO workshop, which involved a quickfire game of Creationary (Pictionary, but with LEGO bricks). Here we all are in the main hall of the Natural History Museum, which is also where we camped out overnight, hoping beyond hope that Hope the Whale wouldn't collapse on top of us.
