This tragic LEGO Emperor Palpatine minifigure is the funniest thing you’ll see today

Have you ever had a LEGO minifigure turn up in worse condition than you expected? Take solace: it’s probably never been as bad as this tragi-comic Emperor Palpatine…

Shipping out LEGO minifigures in padded envelopes is often just one big roll of the dice, and so it goes with Ernie Cook’s Emperor Palpatine minifigure from The Rise of Skywalker. Ernie shared images of his new acquisition straight out of the envelope over on the LEGO Star Wars collectors Facebook group, and it looks a bit like the Sith Lord has had a mishap with a steamroller.

According to Ernie, the envelope ‘went through the mail sorting machine’ rather than being sorted by hand, which is how Palpatine ended up in flatland. And while it’s obviously unfortunate – especially given this minifigure is exclusively available in the 2025 LEGO Star Wars Character Encyclopaedia – you can’t help but laugh at that side-eye.

This one is at least available from around £12.49 on BrickLink, while the book itself is currently just £11.96 (or 30% off) at Amazon. Imagine if a Cloud City Boba Fett or SDCC Amazing Spider-Man minifigure had received this treatment…

Ernie’s best course of action now will presumably be to send it back for a refund. At least then the seller will get to say ‘somehow, Palpatine returned’.
