Too much Paris? Too much Art? Fans can't decide on LEGO's City of Love

LEGO Architecture 21064 Paris – City of Love is dividing the community, with some loving the new style and others feeling tired of Parisian models.

21064 Paris – City of Love is the latest in a long line of sets based on the French capital, but it debuts a new look for LEGO Architecture. It's a bigger set than the classic Skylines sets, it can hang on the wall like a LEGO Art set, and it leans into aesthetics over accuracy like an Art set too.

The LEGO Architecture set takes inspiration from what came before in the theme, as well as aspects from LEGO Art and even the LEGO Exclusives postcards. This mishmash of influence has left some LEGO fans feeling inspired, while others are more confused.

Is Architecture stepping on Art's toes?

Considering LEGO Architecture has only had a handful of releases over the last few years, some fans of the theme are frustrated that one of the few sets to join the theme feels more like a LEGO Art set than an architectural feat.

"I'd rather have the Skyline sets back," wrote Mauzersmash0815 on reddit. "This looks more like something for the Art series. I miss the tiny three-dimensional buildings."

It's true that 21064 Paris – City of Love is about twice the size of the Skylines, allowing for much more detail on the buildings. While more detail is not typically something that's complained about by LEGO fans, fans of the Skyline style might miss the old low-detail landmarks.

Still, even those who like the look of 21064 Paris – City of Love are still wondering about its place in the LEGO system, and if LEGO Architecture is the best home.

"LEGO Architecture wants a slice of the postcard pie with this BEAUTIFUL Paris set," wrote PenPlays on X. "I’m…not sure why Architecture needs to be like an art set when the buildings are the point. It’s pretty, but is it $80 pretty?"

Does it matter if it looks this good?

At the end of the day, however, a theme is just a logo on a box. For many, especially those in more mainstream LEGO channels than reddit, 21064 Paris – City of Love is, plain and simple, a good-looking LEGO set that captures the capital in a whole new way.

"I just came back from Paris," commented najaboutros on the LEGO Group's reveal post on Instagram. "I got the other Paris LEGO set – now I need this one!!"

"This set is absolutely gorgeous and I can definitely see it kicking off a wave of these," said bricklapse1 in a TikTok reacting to the reveal.

"Yeah, going to need one for each major city," agreed another TikTok user in the comments.

LEGO in Paris

Quite apart from any philosophical debates about where 21064 Paris – City of Love fits in as a LEGO set, some fans have pointed out that Paris is overrepresented within the LEGO system.

"Seems like a split between Skyline and Postcard…? Paris already has one of both," commented ReformedNerdLP on reddit. "Why do we need a third?"

"I have almost every Architecture set, including the very big Eiffel tower, and I have to say, I'm getting a little tired of Paris, wrote another reddit user.

Paris is certainly well trodden in the LEGO Architecture theme and, while it's undoubtedly a beautiful city, there are other cities around the world that could do with the same attention. If 21064 Paris – City of Love is the start of a new collection, however, more cities are hopefully on the way.

LEGO Architecture 21064 Paris – City of Love will retail for £69.99 in the UK, $79.99 in the US, and from €79.99 in Europe from January 1, 2026.
