The overwhelming response to the new LEGO Star Wars UCS N-1 Starfighter isn’t focused on the price tag, sticker count or minifigures, but simply that it isn’t yellow.

Take the most upvoted comment on our video interview with designer César Soares, for instance. “Would have loved a yellow Episode 1 version of this starship, it was my favourite as a kid and feels so vibrant and unique,” said etiennegarant7545. Their thoughts are echoed by a bunch of other commenters, including nakkari100, who added: “I am sure those who buy UCS are more [a] fan of the yellow version than The Mandalorian.”

We have technically had a version of this ship with Naboo livery in the Ultimate Collector Series, but it wasn’t really on the same scale as Mando’s N-1. 2002’s 10026 Special Edition Naboo Starfighter reimagined the minifigure-scale playset with chrome silver pieces, coming in at just 187 elements total. A modern version of that set would presumably be closer in size to 75442, only with drum-lacquered silver pieces instead of chrome.

This isn’t to say LEGO Star Wars fans are unanimous in preferring a Naboo version of the N-1. “I've got an admittedly weird take, here, but I actually prefer this model over the prequel ship,” said redditor 40_Minus_1. “I grew up on the original trilogy, was too much of a snob to like the prequels, so the yellow and chrome N1 just holds zero nostalgia for me.”
