Aviation makes up a significant portion of the LEGO portfolio aimed at an older audience, and these are the nine biggest LEGO airplane sets ever.
From younger-aimed themes to those that skew older, airplanes have become a crucial, but uncommon, part of the LEGO portfolio. To mark the reveal of yet another LEGO airplane set earlier today, we're digging through LEGO history to list the nine biggest LEGO airplane models ever, coming from all kinds of themes. We're only counting the airplane models themselves for this list, not the overall contents of the sets.
9 – 60367 Passenger Airplane
Price at time of release: £89.99 / $119.99 / €99.99 Pieces: 913 Release year: 2023

LEGO City's most recent standalone aircraft release kicks off the list with 913 pieces in
8 – 10226 Sopwith Camel
Price at time of release: £79.99 / $99.99 / €99.99 Pieces: 883 Release year: 2012

The classic LEGO Creator Expert 10226 Sopwith Camel swoops into the next spot with 883 pieces and is the first propeller-driven aircraft on this list. The biplane recreation includes realistic tension wires using LEGO string parts, which isn't something that can be said of any other massive LEGO plane.
7 – 42152 Firefighter Aircraft
Price at time of release: £94.99, $99.99, €109.99 Pieces: 1,134 Release year: 2023

LEGO Technic makes up a third of the range of the biggest LEGO planes ever released, starting with 42152 Firefighter Aircraft at 1,134 pieces. It's not based on any specific aircraft, but features a rare water-dropping function and folding landing gear.
6 – 42066 Air Race Jet
Price at time of release: £109.99 / $159.99 / €119.99 Pieces: 1,151 Release year: 2017

2017's 42066 Air Race Jet is next at 1,151 pieces, beating 42152 Firefighter Aircraft by just 17 elements. The more modern jet plane model also features folding landing gear and working flaps. It's also from the era of Technic sets when they could be rebuilt into alternate models – a private jet in this case.
5 – 10177 Boeing 787 Dreamliner
Price at time of release: £49.99 / $79.99 Pieces: 1,197 Release year: 2006

One of the oldest sets on the list is 10177 Boeing 787 Dreamliner from 2006. It includes 1,197 pieces and depicts a passenger aircraft. It's a concept that has been repeated more recently, showcasing how far LEGO building has come. We don't know the exact piece count for the stand, so this set may fall into a lower spot on the list when counting just the plane.
4 – 42025 Cargo Plane
Price at time of release: £109.99 / $139.99 / €119.99 Pieces: 1,297 Release year: 2014

The biggest LEGO Technic plane by piece count is also one of the most functional. 2014's 42025 Cargo Plane features spinning propellers, working flaps, motorised landing gear and more functions. At 1,297 pieces, it just misses the podium for this list.
3 – 10360 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft
Price at time of release: £199.99 / $229.99 / €229.99 Pieces: 2,417 Release year: 2012

The recent LEGO Icons
2 – 11378 Douglas DC-3 PAN AM Airliner
Price at time of release: £199.99 / $219.99 / €219.99 Pieces: 1,903 Release year: 2026

The newest LEGO plane to take off is
1 – 10318 Concorde
Price at time of release: £169.99 / $199.99 / €199.99 Pieces: 2,083 Release year: 2023

Even including the display stand, the full contents of 10318 Concorde use 2,083 pieces and it's unlikely that dropping just the stand would leave this LEGO airplane under the piece count of either
