Star Wars: Resistance animated TV series announced

The next animated TV series from Lucasfilm has been announced as Star Wars: Resistance. Since Star Wars: Rebels reached its thrilling climax, fans have been wondering what the next animated project from Dave Filoni and the Lucasfilm Animation crew might be. Now, Star Wars: Resistance has been announced as the next TV series that will be set in the galaxy far, far away. The official Star Wars website has confirmed that Star Wars: Resistance is in production, due to debut on Disney Channel this fall in the USA before airing around the world on Disney XD. Kazuda Xiono will be the lead character in the new show, spying on the First Order for the Resistance. Actors from the Disney era movies will feature in the series, as revealed by the official announcement:

Featuring the high-flying adventure that audiences of all ages have come to expect from Star Wars, Star Wars Resistance — set in the time prior to Star Wars: The Force Awakens — will feature the beloved droid BB-8 alongside ace pilots, colorful new characters and appearances by fan favorites including Poe Dameron and Captain Phasma, voiced by actors Oscar Isaac and Gwendoline Christie, respectively.

Dave Filoni, the creative mind behind The Clone Wars and Rebels, has created the new series, with show-running duties going to Executive Producer Athena Portillo.

“The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots,” said Filoni. “My grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that’s been a big influence on me. There’s a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we’ve captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time.”
