Someone actually did it: a LEGO UCS Death Star for $0

Congrats to this one guy specifically, who managed to secure the new LEGO Star Wars UCS Death Star for a total of $0 thanks to what some might say is a ridiculous number of Insiders points.

Redditor miziiks has made the ultimate LEGO.com power move by redeeming just shy of 130,000 LEGO Insiders points to knock $999.99 off the price of 75419 Death Star, a set that retails for… $999.99. Here’s a screenshot of what it looks like to redeem that many LEGO Insiders points in one go. (The suggested discount amounts are pretty amusing – yes, precisely $253 off my Death Star please.)

Let’s just take a moment to stop and think about how much miziiks would have had to spend at LEGO.com in order to rack up that many Insiders points. Each $1 earns 6.5 points, so that’s a cool $20,000 to reach 130,000 points. Even if they purchased exclusively during double points events, that’s still $10,000. Or, to put it another way, 10 Death Stars.

We’ve seen plenty of people in the comments sections here on the site and on our YouTube channel expounding the use of Insiders points to put a dint in the Death Star’s record-breaking price tag, but it’s hard to imagine many people will have the points in the bank to get it for free. Or ‘for free’, because is it really free if you had to spend $10,000 (at minimum) to do that?

When you factor in paying full price for sets that were probably available discounted elsewhere, not really. Still, there’s presumably a very satisfying feeling in pressing that ‘order total’ button on the points redemption page for the most expensive LEGO set of all time. It’s just not one most of us will ever get to experience. But good for this one guy at least...

congrats happy for you meme 1024x970

75419 Death Star is available now for LEGO Insiders, and includes 40771 TIE Fighter with Imperial Hangar Rack through October 7 (or while stocks last). You’ll earn an immediate $50 back in Insiders points, too. Handy for the next purchase… not so much this one.
