Sell just seven LEGO UCS Death Star minifigures to recoup nearly half its cost

LEGO Star Wars 75419 Death Star’s minifigures are already hitting the secondary market – and you may be able to recoup nearly half the cost of the set by selling just seven of them.

The new UCS Death Star has only been on shelves for a day, but enterprising BrickLink sellers are already parting copies out on the aftermarket, giving collectors who aren’t interested in the full set the chance to purchase only its minifigures. The characters commanding the highest values are of course those completely exclusive to the £899.99 / $999.99 / €999.99 set.

While familiar faces like Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi have slightly updated designs which makes them technically exclusive to the Death Star, it’s those characters we’ve never seen before that will net you the biggest return should you choose to move them on. As you’d imagine, the Hot Tub Stormtrooper – the only minifigure with dual-moulded legs – is currently the most expensive on BrickLink, starting at £87.04.

The table below includes the cheapest example of each exclusive minifigure in 75419 Death Star on BrickLink at the time of writing (in GBP).

Death Star minifigureLowest price (BrickLink)
Hot Tub Stormtrooper£87.04
Galen Erso£72.53
Imperial Dignitary£57.23
5D6-RA-7 Protocol Droid£57.23
General Tagge£43.51
Admiral Motti£43.51
R3-T6£33.36

Together, these add up to £394.41 – or nearly half the RRP of 75419 Death Star. There are 38 minifigures included in the 9,023-piece set, so you could sell all these and still have plenty with which to populate your fully armed and operational battle station. That’s just one route to getting your hands on this set without sinking £900 into it (handy if you don’t have 120,000 Insiders points to spend).

Of course, just because these are the asking prices for these minifigures at the moment, doesn’t mean anyone will actually buy them for that much… apart from those that have already sold on BrickLink. At the moment, that’s R3-T6 – which has sold once for £44.63, higher than the current cheapest example – and the Hot Tub Stormtrooper, which has sold four times: twice for £65.98, and twice for a whopping £126.20.

Over on eBay, prices vary even further: one lot of all 38 minifigures recently sold for £593.18, but individual minifigures are more expensive than on BrickLink, with Galen Erso, the Hot Tub Stormtrooper and the Imperial Dignitary all available for around £100 each. None of those have sold as yet, apart from a single pre-order for Galen at £99.99 back in September.

None of this should come as much of a surprise given the general aftermarket demand for LEGO Star Wars minifigures, but if you fancy getting your hands on the Death Star for the building experience and model and don’t care much for its relatively obscure exclusive characters, this could be one way to get around its exorbitant asking price.

75419 Death Star is available now for £899.99 / $999.99 / €999.99. 40771 TIE Fighter with Imperial Hangar Rack is free with all purchases of the UCS set through October 7, or while stocks last.
