LEGO Pokémon's rumoured $650 build of the first-generation starters – Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Charmander – could go in two familiar directions.
Early rumours for LEGO Pokémon's first year include the $650 and 6,838-piece 72153 Bulbasaur, Squirtle & Charmander, which we've speculated to be a set of three buildable characters. The titular trio were the first Pokémon that players could pick from in the debut games, Red and Green, and starting the new theme with them makes almost too much sense.
With our further speculation that another rumoured LEGO Pokémon build could be a fourth buildable character, there are a couple of paths for such sets to take, both of which have been explored before. MEGA's range of Pokémon models includes several buildable figures, including their Jumbo line of builds, which uses fewer than 1,000 elements to create large figures of various Pokémon, such as Bulbasaur and Charmander.
The Pokémon Company has similarly explored the concept of recreating its characters, including with the Pokémon Gallery range of smaller figures. These figures depict each Pokémon performing a move in a dynamic pose that features some of the surrounding landscape. This collection also includes Bulbasaur, Squirtle & Charmander and differs from MEGA's models in both size and how much they can move – not at all.
The Pokémon gallery figures for Bulbasaur, Squirtle and Charmander were released in 2019, while the Jumbo MEGA Pokémon sets were released much more recently in 2023. The Squirtle model pictured below is one of the smaller Build & Show sets, since no Jumbo Squirtle was ever released.
The relatively recent release of the MEGA sets may create competition, should the LEGO Group's rumoured buildable figures have similar posing potential. The Pokémon Gallery figures, on the other hand have not been available for some time, and widely available dynamic dioramas of these three Pokémon are rare.
Alternatively, there might be a third direction to follow, and this is only speculation based on these LEGO Pokémon rumours. While the theme itself is confirmed for 2026, nothing further has been officially confirmed at the time of writing. For a rundown of every LEGO set rumoured for 2026, head to our dedicated page.
