Rumoured LEGO Modular Building set will need to innovate

Rumoured LEGO Modular Building set will need to innovate

The latest rumour for the LEGO Modular Buildings Collection posits familiar territory for the LEGO Group, necessitating some innovation.

Instead of being a townhouse, the next LEGO modular building is now rumoured to be some manner of inn or bed and breakfast, still offering a temporary home for minifigures on the move. It's a considerable change for the rumoured set and serves as a reminder to take all LEGO rumours with caution.

Instagram user a.clay.brick states that the modular building will be closer to a bed and breakfast or an inn rather than an array of homes, with a café included for good measure. Such facilities aren't new to the modular street as 10297 Boutique Hotel also offers minifigures a place to stay, likely with more luxurious commodities. There have been several places to eat on the modular street too, including in 10182 Café Corner.

While 10182 Café Corner isn't exactly a recent release, 10297 Boutique Hotel was launched more recently and is still available. Its luxurious features may help it to stand out from an inn or bed and breakfast, especially one similar to the image in a.clay.brick's rumour post, but the function of these buildings would remain the same according to the new rumour.

It's not just the modular collection that features such notable similarities, but 2024 specifically has been rife with inns and bed and breakfasts too. From 42638 Castle Bed and Breakfast to 10332 Medieval Town Square and 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon's Tale, there are quite a few LEGO inns and hotels of all shapes and sizes on the market at the time of writing.

Provided that this new rumour is accurate, the next LEGO modular building is going to need to innovate and offer something new for the portfolio. Whether that be via classic timber frames on the exterior – which would be unlike anything else on the street – or in another way that would differentiate it from 10332 Medieval Town Square while still blending in with the modular collection.

Either way, should this rumour prove to be accurate the next modular building is entering the portfolio during a challenging period, but if done correctly would cater to minifigures that can't quite afford the luxury of 10297 Boutique Hotel.
