Retiring sets to pick up before LEGO Ideas' Godzilla

LEGO Godzilla is coming thanks to LEGO Ideas and while his release is likely at least a year away, there are retiring sets to grab in the meantime.

The results of the third 2024 LEGO Ideas review officially approved Godzilla for a future LEGO Ideas set, immediately drawing comparisons to another huge figure, and bringing various LEGO buildings to mind for Godzilla to destroy. The release of the LEGO Ideas Godzilla set is unconfirmed, but based on past models, it should be at least one year away, or later.

Assuming that the LEGO Ideas team follow MattE720's project as closely as they have the past few submissions, we can get a rough idea of how big LEGO Godzilla will be, and how he will scale with the various LEGO buildings. Note that the final set design may change this, but it seems safe to assume that a LEGO Godzilla build will be big.

The likes of 76324 Spider-Man vs. Oscorp will be perfect additions to your inevitable LEGO Godzilla display, but don't forget the hundreds of sets retiring later this year, of which the retiring dates are subject to change.

From modular buildings to affordable skyscrapers, here are six LEGO sets retiring in 2025 that you'll want to consider picking up before the LEGO Godzilla set launches, since they'll be long gone by the time Godzilla stomps to shelves.

76178 Daily Bugle

Price: £299.99 / $349.99 / €349.99 Pieces: 3,789 Minifigures: 25

The upcoming release of LEGO Godzilla is just the latest reason to pick up 76178 Daily Bugle, just in case the 25 minifigures, including exclusive characters such as Daredevil, Blade, Black Cat and Punisher, weren't enough. The towering LEGO skyscraper fits in neatly alongside the Modular Buildings Collection, and based on the fan design, it should go perfectly with LEGO Godzilla.

The building comes pre-destroyed as well, ideal for battle damage in a Godzilla display. Remove the Marvel minifigures and Daily Bugle branding, and you'd never guess this was a Marvel set, or you can pair the heroes with Godzilla in your collection. Either way, the upcoming LEGO Ideas set presents another good reason to grab 76178 Daily Bugle while you still can.

10297 Boutique Hotel

Price: £199.99 / $229.99 / €229.99 Pieces: 3,066 Minifigures: 7

The more affordable LEGO modular buildings are also good picks for an inevitable LEGO Godzilla display. 10297 Boutique Hotel is one of two sets in the collection due to retire later this year.

10312 Jazz Club

10312 Jazz Club is the other LEGO modular building retiring this year, and it's much more suited to a city display than 10297 Boutique Hotel for its square layout and brownstone-inspired architecture. It fits the nature of a dense city nicely and would go perfectly with LEGO Godzilla, whenever he stomps to shelves.

31153 Modern House

Price: £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99 Pieces: 939 Minifigures: 2

Those looking for a LEGO Godzilla add-on on a budget will prefer an official alternate build of 31153 Modern House. One of two different builds for the LEGO Creator set depicts a tall skyscraper, but only for £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99. It's considerably more standalone than the modular buildings, and is much more affordable than 76178 Daily Bugle. It's smaller size will only serve to make LEGO Godzilla look bigger, no matter how the team adapt the design.

60422 Seaside Harbour with Cargo Ship

Price: £94.99 / $109.99 / €109.99 Pieces: 1,226 Minifigures: 8

Given that many of the Godzilla films depict the creature emerging from the ocean into a city, 60422 Seaside Harbor with Cargo Ship is worth considering for a LEGO Godzilla display before it retires later this year. The set includes a good-sized cargo ship and a full harbour, perfect to display alongside other LEGO buildings for a more complete scene that Godzilla can make his way through.

41748 Heartlake City Community Center

Price: £129.99 / $139.99 / €149.99 Pieces: 1,513 Mini-dolls: 6

Another option for a LEGO skyscraper retiring later this year is the much more colourful 41748 Heartlake City Community Center. The 41cm high build has a bright colour scheme that would contrast with Godzilla, assuming the LEGO Ideas team doesn't drastically change his design. It's also another affordable alternative to the towering 76178 Daily Bugle at £129.99 / $139.99 / €149.99.
