Eight retiring LEGO sets you should snap up for this month’s freebies

October is upon us, which means we’re inching ever closer to the departure of roughly 400 retiring LEGO sets – so here are eight worth picking up to make the most of this month’s gifts-with-purchase.

Several LEGO sets retiring in 2024 are already starting to sell out in certain regions, such as 75353 Endor Speeder Chase Diorama (sold out in Europe), 75290 Mos Eisley Cantina (temporarily out of stock in the UK and Europe), 76210 Hulkbuster (temporarily out of stock in the UK) and 80044 Monkie Kid’s Team Hideout (sold out in the UK and Europe).

That means the clock really is ticking on the rest, and while you could hold out for Black Friday deals to snap up those retiring sets perhaps lower down on your wishlist, it might be more prudent to grab your high-priority models as soon as possible. The good news is that two new LEGO gifts-with-purchase are available right now alongside the wave of October releases, including:

With those incentives in mind, here are eight hand-picked retiring LEGO sets worth snapping up to claim both freebies in one fell swoop. You can also check out the complete list of LEGO sets retiring in 2024 for alternative ideas.

75341 Luke Skywalker’s Landspeeder

Theme: LEGO Star Wars Price: £209.99 / $239.99 / €239.99 Pieces: 1,890 Release date: May 4, 2022 LEGO: Order now

LEGO Star Wars 75341 Luke Skywalkers Landspeeder featured 2 1024x576

The LEGO Star Wars team may have re-released its best Threepio minifigure in this year’s 75398 C-3PO, but that’s no reason to strike 75341 Luke Skywalker’s Landspeeder from your wishlist. This Ultimate Collector Series set blows up an all-too-familiar staple from a galaxy far, far away to a gargantuan scale, and in doing so manages to stave off the Landspeeder fatigue plenty of us were feeling prior to 2022. Bonus points for not being a grey LEGO Star Wars UCS set, too.

21338 A-Frame Cabin

Theme: LEGO Ideas Price: £159.99 / $179.99 / €179.99 Pieces: 2,082 Release date: February 1, 2023 LEGO: Order now

LEGO Ideas 21338 A Frame Cabin lifestyle featured 1024x576

Most LEGO Ideas sets enjoy a relatively long shelf life, but 21338 A-Frame Cabin is leaving production lines after less than two years on sale. Do whatever it takes to avoid being caught out by its departure though, as this is easily one of the cosiest display models the Ideas theme has ever put out, and is tailor-made to be redressed for each season of the year. You’ll get both current GWPs by ordering this set alone.

60380 Downtown

Theme: LEGO City Price: £179.99 / $199.99 / €209.99 Pieces: 2,010 Release date: June 1, 2023 LEGO: Order now

lego city 60380 downtown lifestyle featured 1024x576

The biggest LEGO City set of all time offers a shortcut to building a giant cityscape anchored around the current road plate system, but time is running out to capitalise on this sprawling mix of businesses, restaurants and minifigures. 60380 Downtown is retiring after only a year and a half on shelves, which is pretty standard as far as City sets go, but disappointingly quick for what is still the theme’s flagship set. Don’t miss it.

76248 The Avengers Quinjet

Theme: LEGO Marvel Price: £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99 Pieces: 795 Release date: January 1, 2023 LEGO: Order now

LEGO Marvel 76248 The Avengers Quinjet featured 1024x576

We’ve seen plenty of LEGO Marvel Quinjets before, but none have been quite as good as 76248 The Avengers Quinjet. A refined and expertly executed playset version of the MCU’s most iconic jet, the 795-piece set sits on a black display stand and arguably looks more expensive than it actually is at £89.99 / $99.99 / €99.99. It’s tough to say when we’ll get another one of these that looks this good, so strike while the iron (man) is hot.

77015 Temple of the Golden Idol

Theme: LEGO Indiana Jones Price: £129.99 / $149.99 / €149.99 Pieces: 1,545 Release date: April 1, 2023 LEGO: Order now

LEGO Indiana Jones 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol lifestyle featured 2 1024x576

One of a handful of LEGO sets in Brick Fanatics’ Top 20 LEGO sets list retiring in 2024, 77015 Temple of the Golden Idol is probably the best 18+ playset the LEGO Group is selling right now, let alone the best Indiana Jones set. It’s super interactive but also looks the part, making for a vibrant and polished display model that you won’t be able to stop tinkering with. It’s just the right price to qualify for both October freebies, too.

76389 Hogwarts Chamber of Secrets

Theme: LEGO Harry Potter Price: £129.99 / $149.99 / €149.99 Pieces: 1,176 Release date: June 1, 2021 LEGO: Order now

LEGO Harry Potter 76389 Hogwarts Chamber of Secrets featured resized 1024x576

The LEGO Group may have kick-started a new wave of modular Hogwarts sets in 2024, but that’s no reason to ignore 76389 Hogwarts Chamber of Secrets – not least because the newest Great Hall set doesn’t include the home of the Basilisk. But it does sit on a rocky base that incorporates an underground area, so the opportunity is very much there to take the 2021 set and use its pieces to expand your new layout (or just complete your old one).

42145 Airbus H175 Rescue Helicopter

Theme: LEGO Technic Price: £179.99 / $209.99 / €209.99 Pieces: 2,001 Release date: August 1, 2022 LEGO: Order now

LEGO Technic 42145 Airbus H175 Rescue Helicopter featured 1024x576

Another strong contender in Brick Fanatics’ Top 20 LEGO sets list that’s on its way out in 2024, 42145 Airbus H175 Rescue Helicopter is probably the best LEGO Technic set you can buy right now. That’s thanks not only to its wealth of functions but also its ambitious scope and attractive aesthetic, all of which add up to one of the most cohesive models to come out of this theme in recent memory. But you don’t have long now to add it to your collection…

10320 Eldorado Fortress

Theme: LEGO Icons Price: £189.99 / $214.99 / €214.99 Pieces: 2,509 Release date: July 4, 2023 LEGO: Order now

LEGO Icons 10320 Eldorado Fortress featured box art 1024x576

Maybe the biggest surprise retirement in 2024 is 10320 Eldorado Fortress, a retro remake of the 1989 LEGO Pirates set of the same name that only debuted in July 2023. That suggests that it hasn’t necessarily sold all that well, and copies on the aftermarket could therefore be relatively difficult to come by – so now might be the time to buy, before it sells out and jumps in value post-retirement. This one will also qualify for both 40697 Halloween Pumpkin and 40728 Brite Bomber.
