Rumours of a Donkey Kong arcade set for later this year bring to mind a retiring LEGO set which would pair perfectly with such a build.
LEGO Super Mario is rumoured to be receiving 72051 Donkey Kong Arcade Machine later this year, stated to feature 1,367 pieces for $169.99 / €169.99. The LEGO Group's prior history with arcade machine models isn't just limited to the recent 468-piece 40805 Arcade Machine, as there's a retiring set which you may want to pick up sooner rather than later, ahead of the rumoured build.
10323 PAC-MAN Arcade is currently scheduled to be retired at the end of July. This 2023 release has 2,651 pieces and costs £229.99 / $269.99 / €269.99. That's many more elements than the rumoured 72051 Donkey Kong Arcade Machine, but it offers an idea of what to expect from a larger LEGO arcade creation.
Aside from the size, the biggest difference between 10323 PAC-MAN Arcade and 40805 Arcade Machine is that the PAC-MAN model can actually function. By turning a crank on the side, 10323 PAC-MAN Arcade's screen can move as PAC-MAN follows a specific path around the maze.

It's a good reminder (and additional excuse) to pick up 10323 PAC-MAN Arcade before it retires in July, one month before the Super Mario set is rumoured to be released. Whether or not the rumoured model might have a similar function to replicate Donkey Kong's gameplay is unknown, but something similar is possible, as the Great Ball Contraption community have proven.
MindStork shared a video of a module for the contraption based on Donkey Kong a while ago, using the balls in place of the barrels that Donkey Kong rolls down the structure.
While we wait to find out more about the rumoured Super Mario summer 2026 model, including whether or not it's actually coming, you can find 10323 PAC-MAN Arcade on shelves for £229.99 / $269.99 / €269.99. Those intrigued by the set's functionality should pick it up before the model retires in July.
