Retiring LEGO Marvel set guide: buy now, wait for Black Friday or skip?

Retiring LEGO Marvel set guide: buy now, wait for Black Friday or skip?

More than two dozen LEGO Marvel sets are leaving shelves for good this year, but with Black Friday right around the corner, which are worth targeting before 2025 is out?

Next up in our retiring LEGO set guides – following Creator, DC, Technic, Star Wars, Ideas and more – is LEGO Marvel, a theme that will see 26 sets gone for good by the end of 2025. Some of those are already starting to sell out at LEGO.com and through select third-party retailers, so this guide is written with that context in mind.

For each Marvel LEGO set listed here you’ll find a recommendation from the Brick Fanatics team: buy it as soon as you can, wait for a Black Friday deal, or safely skip it altogether. If we recommend buying it now, it means it’s not worth risking missing out if it sells out ahead of Black Friday. If we advise waiting for a deal, it’s probably not one you’re going to lose sleep over if you do miss out.

Dive in below, and don’t forget that you can keep track of every retiring LEGO set over on our dedicated page.

10789 Spider-Man’s Car and Doc Ock

LEGO Marvel 10789 Spider Mans Car and Doc Ock

The first of three LEGO Spidey and His Amazing Friends sets retiring in 2025, 10789 Spider-Man’s Car and Doc Ock is really one for completists only. That’s unless you want to get your hands on what’s probably the grooviest Doc Ock minifigure around right now (at least until we get Olivia Octavius from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse). At only £8.99 it’s an easy impulse buy in that scenario, but for everyone else… one to skip.

10794 Team Spidey Web Spinner Headquarters

LEGO Marvel 10794 Team Spidey Web Spinner Headquarters featured

These 4+ sets don’t necessarily have a tonne to offer older builders (as you’d expect), but there are some interesting minimalist minifigures among them if you’re so inclined. From a build and value perspective, though, there’s very little to recommend in 10794 Team Spidey Web Spinner Headquarters for the masses.

11199 Team Spidey Dino Crawler Rescue

LEGO Marvel 11199 Team Spidey Dino Crawler Rescue featured

If you’re going to pick up any of these Spidey and His Amazing Friends sets, 11199 Team Spidey Dino Crawler Rescue is probably the one to aim for, purely for answering the question we’ve all been asking: what if Spider-Man characters were dinosaurs? Ghostosaurus and Dino-Rhino alone are almost enough to justify the price here… but not quite. Grab it on sale if you want to add a little dino magic to your Marvel collection.

76178 Daily Bugle

LEGO Marvel 76178 Daily Bugle featured 3 resized 1024x576

The headline superhero set leaving shelves this year is 2021’s 76178 Daily Bugle, the first (and possibly still the best) LEGO Marvel modular building. Unfortunately, it’s already sold out permanently at LEGO.com in the UK – but you might still be able to find it at third-party retailers. It’s still available at the official online store in other regions, including the US and Germany, but if you haven’t picked this one up yet don’t wait for Black Friday – that might be too late…

76191 Infinity Gauntlet

76191 Header Image 1024x576

Another veteran LEGO Marvel release, 76191 Infinity Gauntlet has been around long enough (and is affordable enough) that you’ve probably got one hand on it already. But if not, time is running short: it’s sold out in the US and temporarily out of stock in the UK at LEGO.com. This one is worth it for the sheer number of drum-lacquered gold elements alone, and given it’s already disappearing now is probably the time to snap your fingers and buy it.

76261 Spider-Man Final Battle

LEGO Marvel 76261 Spider Man Final Battle featured image 1024x576

One factor well worth considering when weighing up any retiring LEGO set is whether or not the LEGO Group is likely to remake it somewhere down the line. We’ll probably get another Spider-Man car (hey, there’s one in 2026), but it’s tough to say we’ll ever get another set based on the climax of Spider-Man: No Way Home. One of the better Marvel movies in recent years has one of the better LEGO Marvel playsets in 76261 Spider-Man Final Battle, though it is one that gets discounted frequently, so you can probably wait for a deal here.

76276 Venom Mech Armor vs. Miles Morales

LEGO Marvel 76276 Venom Mech Armor vs. Miles Morales featured

Remember what we were just saying about LEGO Marvel sets that will inevitably be repeated? That goes double for 76276 Venom Mech Armor vs. Miles Morales, which features two of the most common Spider-Man characters to boot (even if Miles is a slightly rarer version). Moving on…

76277 War Machine Mech Armor

LEGO Marvel 76277 War Machine Mech Armor featured

Like Iron Man, War Machine feels a little more suited to a mech than most Marvel characters, and 76277 War Machine Mech Armor looks pretty neat on the whole. But few of us will remiss missing out on yet another Marvel mech, so best put this budget elsewhere.

76279 Spider-Man Race Car & Venom Green Goblin

LEGO Marvel 76279 Spider Man Race Car Venom Green Goblin featured

If you’re collecting Venomized characters, Green Goblin here is currently exclusive to this set (unless you were able to snag him in the LEGO Marvel magazine). But that’s about the only reason we can think of to recommend 76279 Spider-Man Race Car & Venom Green Goblin, and given you can grab that minifigure for much less on the aftermarket, this is one to pass.

76280 Spider-Man vs. Sandman: Final Battle

LEGO Marvel 76280 spider man final battle sandman lifestyle featured 1024x576

76280 Spider-Man vs. Sandman: Final Battle doesn’t feel as essential for Spider-Man collectors as its counterpart, but if you want to complete the scene with a giant Sandman figure and the Lizard, you’re going to want to make a beeline for this one at some point before the year’s out. It’s another one that’s regularly available discounted, though, so pencil it in for Black Friday.

76281 X-Men X-Jet

LEGO Marvel 76281 x men jet lifestyle featured 1024x576

The LEGO Group revisits the X-Men so infrequently that you might imagine we’d be recommending snapping up 76281 X-Men X-Jet while the going’s good. But with 76294 X-Men: The X-Mansion still on shelves, the insultingly high price of this set and the X-Men’s imminent return to the MCU, there are better options right now for these characters – and probably will be in the relatively near future, too.

76282 Rocket & Baby Groot

LEGO Marvel 76282 Rocket Baby Groot featured image 1024x576

Buildable LEGO characters are famously hit and miss, and for all its strengths 76282 Rocket & Baby Groot falls a little closer towards the latter end of that spectrum. It’s fine, but it’s not a showstopper – probably thanks in part to its relatively meagre piece count – and there are better LEGO Marvel sets to target before 2025 is out.

76285 Spider-Man’s Mask

LEGO Marvel 76285 Spider Mans Mask featured 2 1024x576

Sometimes the simplest concepts make for the best LEGO sets, and so it goes with 76285 Spider-Man’s Mask. There’s not much in the way of visual firepower here beyond the instantly iconic visage of Spidey’s headgear, but beneath that deceptively plain exterior lies a pretty interesting build. The LEGO Group has never really revisited any of its helmets, masks or busts, so best grab this one while you can if it’s on your radar.

76286 Guardians of the Galaxy: The Milano

lego marvel 76286 guardians of the galaxy milano lifestyle featured 1024x576

Here’s one major exception to the redesign rule, because while odds are good that we’ll see another Milano somewhere down the line, there are no guarantees that it will be as brilliant as 76286 Guardians of the Galaxy: The Milano. This is verging on Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series territory in scope and design, and would be a fine centrepiece for any LEGO Marvel collection. Don’t miss it.

76287 Iron Man with Bike and The Hulk

LEGO Marvel 76287 Iron Man with Bike and The Hulk featured 2 1024x576

At face value, 76287 Iron Man with Bike and The Hulk is just another 4+ set with a terribly un-catchy name, and an easy skip for most of us. But if you’re the type to collect every single variation on a theme, it’s worth noting that both minifigures here are technically exclusive – even if not terribly interesting. One for those people at its relatively low price, but everyone else can look elsewhere.

76288 Iron Man & Iron Legion vs. Hydra Soldier

LEGO Marvel 76288 Iron Man Iron Legion vs. Hydra Soldier featured

LEGO Marvel doesn’t really do battle packs in the same way as Star Wars, but 76288 Iron Man & Iron Legion vs. Hydra Soldier is as close as it gets. The pricing is about the same too, with four minifigures and a pretty unsubstantial build for a hefty fee. The characters here are worth a look-in, especially the Iron Legion pair, but try to grab it discounted if you can.

76289 Thor vs. Surtur Construction Figure

LEGO Marvel 76289 Thor vs. Surtur Construction Figure 1024x576

The roster of buildable Marvel characters is expansive enough that Surtur wouldn’t usually get much of a look-in, but this Thor: Ragnarok set is actually surprisingly fun – and pretty unique as Infinity Saga sets go, in execution if not concept. It’s not bad value at full price, but a sale would go a long way to making 76289 Thor vs. Surtur Construction Figure more of a fun impulse buy this Black Friday.

76290 The Avengers vs. The Leviathan

LEGO Marvel 76290 The Avengers vs. The Leviathan featured

Whether you’re looking for a couple more Leviathans to round out your 76269 Avengers Tower display or just want a slice of the original Avengers movie for your Marvel shelf, 76290 The Avengers vs. The Leviathan is definitely worth seeking out before it retires. But it’s a pretty steep ask at full price (the bigfig puts a big strain on the budget), so try to catch it on sale. It’s gone as low as half price at Amazon UK before…

76291 The Avengers Assemble: Age of Ultron

LEGO Marvel 76291 The Avengers Assemble Age of Ultron featured 1024x576

76291 The Avengers Assemble: Age of Ultron has already sold out at LEGO.com in the US, so now’s the time to bite the bullet if you haven’t already – whether through a third-party retailer stateside or the official online store in other countries. This is probably the best example of LEGO Marvel’s diorama-style sets on the market right now too, even if it is from one of the lesser Avengers movies.

76292 Captain America vs. Red Hulk Battle

LEGO Marvel 76292 Captain America vs. Red Hulk Battle Lifestyle featured 1024x576

It’s hard to say that anyone needs 76292 Captain America vs. Red Hulk Battle in their lives given the only real draw here is old red himself, but we probably won’t see a Red Hulk bigfig again for a while, so you might as well take the plunge if you do want him in your collection. We can’t in good conscience recommend doing so at full price, though: it’s £49.99 for 223 pieces…

76295 The Avengers Helicarrier

lego marvel 76295 helicarrier lifestyle featured 1024x576

Marvel’s first midi-scale set may have commanded a high price, but it hasn’t stopped it selling out permanently at LEGO.com in the UK and US. 76295 The Avengers Helicarrier is still available in some regions – including parts of Europe and Australia – at the time of writing, but chances are it won’t be around much longer. Even then though it’s tough to suggest shelling out full price for, so maybe hang on a little bit longer until LEGO Insiders Weekend and Black Friday…

76296 New Captain America Construction Figure

LEGO Marvel 76296 New Captain America Construction Figure featured 1024x576

Even if you really like Marvel’s buildable figures, and even though 76296 New Captain America Construction Figure is 30% off at LEGO.com in the UK and Europe and 20% off in the US, a set based on the new and so far much less iconic version of Captain America is still a tough sell. Save your money for Spidey, at least…

76298 Iron Spider-Man Construction Figure

LEGO Marvel 76298 Iron Spider Man Construction Figure featured

A superhero much better suited to this style of LEGO set, 76298 Iron Spider-Man Construction Figure is an easier recommendation than Captain America, although ironically not at full price – and this is the one not currently discounted at the official online store. See if you can score it elsewhere during Black Friday, but otherwise don’t worry too much – chances are it’s not going to rise in value too much once retired.

76307 Iron Man vs. Ultron

LEGO Marvel 76307 Iron Man vs. Ultron featured

The LEGO Group slowly seems to be cottoning on to what’s going to make its mechs desirable for hardcore LEGO fans as well as kids, and that’s exclusive minifigures. 76307 Iron Man vs. Ultron includes a brand new version of its villainous robot, and given it only launched in January this year the window to snap it up has been pretty short, so if Ultron appeals make sure to grab it before it’s gone.

76308 Spider-Man vs. Anti-Venom

LEGO Marvel 76308 Spider Man vs. Anti Venom featured

While Ultron has yet to appear in any other Marvel sets, Anti-Venom returned in this summer’s 76317 Peter Parker's Apartment, dramatically decreasing the desirability of 76308 Spider-Man vs. Anti-Venom – not least because this is the same old Spidey we’ve seen countless times before. If only it had been themed to the Insomniac games like the mech…

76310 Iron Man Car & Black Panther vs. Red Hulk

LEGO Marvel 76310 Iron Man Car Black Panther vs. Red Hulk featured

Looking for Red Hulk in minifigure form rather than as a bigfig? 76310 Iron Man Car & Black Panther vs. Red Hulk is the set to aim for. But everything else here can be found elsewhere and in more attractive packages, so give it a swerve otherwise.

Head here for a complete list of LEGO sets retiring in 2025 across all themes.
