Our latest guide to this year’s retiring LEGO sets weighs up whether to buy, hold out on or skip each of the 16 LEGO Harry Potter models leaving shelves in 2025.
As with our previous guides to Star Wars, Icons and Ideas’ retiring sets, we’ll consider whether you should buy each of these sets as soon as you have the funds available (or there’s a decent gift-with-purchase/double points event at LEGO.com), wait for a decent discount on them (around Black Friday, for example), or skip them altogether in favour of something else.
Check out each retiring LEGO Harry Potter set below, and head here to find a complete list of all LEGO sets retiring in 2025.
75978 Diagon Alley

The oldest LEGO Harry Potter set retiring this year is 75978 Diagon Alley, a sprawling street of shops situated across four 16x32 baseplates. This is the Collectors’ Edition version of the Wizarding World location (even if the LEGO Group hadn’t conjured up that name yet in 2020), compared to the smaller playsets the LEGO Harry Potter theme has been pumping out for the past few years.
It’s one Wizarding World fans were requesting for a good while before it landed on shelves, and still holds up five years on. We’re probably not going to see anything on the scale of this again for Diagon Alley for a very long time, and given it’s exclusively available through official channels, discounts have been rare – so it’s one to grab as soon as possible if it’s on your wishlist, especially if you want to pair it with
Verdict: Buy now
76391 Hogwarts Icons Collectors' Edition

This is a relatively easy one to call, because it’s pretty unlikely we’ll ever get anything like
The three exclusive golden 20th-anniversary Harry Potter minifigures are all worth a good chunk of change on the aftermarket too, and only likely to rise in price once it retires, so you should definitely take the plunge if you want those (or if you can sell them to offset the cost of the rest of the set). And with one eye on how long it’s been around without any kind of discount, it’s tough to see it going on sale soon…
Verdict: Buy now
76421 Dobby the House-Elf

The good thing about LEGO Harry Potter’s buildable characters is that they’re generally very affordable (at least compared to their Star Wars equivalents, for example). 76421 Dobby the House-Elf is cheap enough to be an impulse buy… but has also been widely discounted enough to make it worth waiting for a deal before taking the plunge. It’s not what you’d call a must-have Potter set anyway, so no need to worry too much if you don’t get round to buying it before it retires.
Verdict: Wait for a deal
76423 Hogwarts Express & Hogsmeade Station

Verdict: Skip
76425 Hedwig at 4 Privet Drive

While some Harry Potter buildable characters are aimed at older builders or wider audiences, 76425 Hedwig at 4 Privet Drive is very much one for the younger fans out there, priced and designed as such. It’s not a bad set by any means – it knows its brief and delivers on it – but it’s also destined to be forgotten in the grand scheme of Wizarding World releases, so makes for an easy skip now.
Verdict: Skip
76426 Hogwarts Castle Boathouse

The same principle applies to every LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Castle set on this list that’s part of the current modular format: if you want to complete ‘the most detailed Hogwarts ever’, as the LEGO Group is billing it, you’re going to want to grab it before it retires. But most of them, including 76426 Hogwarts Castle Boathouse, are generally available with discounts through third-party retailers, so seek out one of those before paying full price.
Verdict: Wait for a deal
76427 Buckbeak

What is there to say about 76427 Buckbeak? You’ll probably already know whether you want it by now, and if you haven’t snapped it up already it’s not really worth worrying about this late into its lifespan. Buildable creatures like this one don’t tend to rise in value too rapidly on the aftermarket, so even if you change your mind later, you should still be able to add it to your collection for a reasonable price.
Verdict: Skip
76428 Hagrid's Hut: An Unexpected Visit

Another LEGO Harry Potter icon that’s sure to be revisited somewhere down the line – perhaps even before the decade is out –
Verdict: Wait for a deal
76430 Hogwarts Castle Owlery

See above vis-à-vis Hogwarts Castle additions: don’t pass up on it altogether if you’re collecting them, even though 76430 Hogwarts Castle Owlery is a standalone structure that doesn’t physically connect to the rest, but do try to find it on sale somewhere as it’s not necessarily worth full price.
Verdict: Wait for a deal
76431 Hogwarts Castle: Potions Class

If you’re going to skip any of the Hogwarts Castle sections, an additional classroom – which slots into the base of the Great Hall and replaces one of the existing rooms there – is probably the easiest to pass up.
Verdict: Wait for a deal
76433 Mandrake

If any LEGO Harry Potter set was going to include a sound brick, be grateful it wasn’t this one. Nobody needs to hear 76433 Mandrake wailing in real life. But you might just want to build it, especially because it’s been readily available at a third or even half off since debuting, and it’s a nice Botanicals-adjacent set if you’re looking for something a little kookier to add to that collection.
Verdict: Wait for a deal
76434 Aragog in the Forbidden Forest

Yes, this is technically the best and most accurate Aragog yet, but the LEGO Group returns to the eight-legged well so often that we’re again almost guaranteed to get another one of these at some stage. (Also: arachnophobes will find it an easy one to scroll on by, eyes shut tight.) 76434 Aragog in the Forbidden Forest is cheap enough to advise buying now if you desperately want it, but otherwise your budget is better spent elsewhere.
Verdict: Skip
76439 Ollivanders & Madam Malkin's Robes

Anyone collecting the smaller-scale Diagon Alley sets should make a beeline for

76440 Triwizard Tournament: The Arrival

It took the LEGO Group nearly 20 years to revisit the Durmstrang Ship in

76441 Hogwarts Castle: Dueling Club

Another Hogwarts Castle section that’s relatively easy to pass up given it subs in for the dining tables in the Great Hall,

76456 Advent Calendar 2025

Not all LEGO advent calendars sell out straight away or even before the year is out, but Harry Potter’s seasonal sets tend to do pretty well. They do occasionally get discounted even at LEGO.com, but for the avoidance of doubt (and given it’s a pretty cheap set in the grand scheme of things), probably best to snap
