LEGO Ideas 21357 Luxo Jr. may look accurate to its animated source material, but there’s one thing missing from the upcoming Disney Pixar model.
Fans of Disney Pixar animation will no doubt be jumping for joy today, thanks to the official reveal of 21357 Luxo Jr. The upcoming LEGO Ideas set consists of 613-pieces and recreates the energetic lamp in brick-built form, complete with Pixar Ball and small stand.
Based on the original LEGO Ideas submission by Toby Brett, the build is fully-articulated, with a selection of rubber bands and numerous hinged elements allowing 21357 Luxo Jr. to be displayed in all manner of animated poses. However, even with all of those features packed into the set, we can't help but feel there’s one essential item missing from the model.
We’re talking of course about a light brick, an interactive piece that would surely have taken the LEGO Ideas build to the next level. During the Disney Pixar intro that's present at the start of all of the studio’s films, the highly-sprung lamp leaps onto the ‘I’ in the logo, flattening it, then looks forlornly out at the audience with its eye-like light source.
Sadly, that latter functionality is missing from 21357 Luxo Jr. a feature that might have made the set even more of a must-have, but would have undoubtedly come at a higher price point. While the original LEGO Ideas submission also lacked a light brick, its inclusion with the upcoming model could have been the icing on top of the animated cake. As it is, the lamp's 'bulb' appears to consist of two spherical yellow elements that mimic the look of a bulb, but not its luminescent ability.
Nevertheless, 21357 Luxo Jr. still holds plenty of secrets for animation fans to discover, with the Pixar Ball able to open up, revealing hidden Easter eggs inside that reference fan-favourite Disney Pixar movies such as Up, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Monsters, Inc., Toy Story and Finding Nemo.
LEGO Ideas 21357 Luxo Jr. is available for pre-order right now, is priced at £59.99 / $69.99 / €69.99 and launches on June 1, 2025.
