A new collection of Epic Battle sets is coming to LEGO Marvel next year, exploring films beyond the main universe, and there's much more we need.
With this in mind, there are quite a few films for the LEGO Marvel team to explore through the lens of Epic Battle builds, capitalising on nostalgia with the support of the massive movie crossover that will be Avengers: Doomsday in December 2026.
The Incredible Hulk: Hulk vs. Abomination
The original Incredible Hulk movie has yet to be represented in LEGO Marvel, and an Epic Battle set might be one way to reference it. A bigfig-focused diorama depicting the battle between Hulk and Abomination, with the ruined buildings around them, has some potential. It's a similar concept to that of
Bigfigs aren't inherently posable, only able to move their head and arms. As such, an Epic Battle set based on this film might be an opportunity to experiment with a brick-built Hulk and Abomination to properly recreate moments from this battle, eschewing bigfigs and the limitations that come with them.
The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer: Fantastic Four vs. Doctor Doom
The Fantastic Four is still fairly fresh to LEGO Marvel following their MCU movie debut, but beyond the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they've had a couple of films before. One of these is The Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, where Doctor Doom plays a vital role.
Using this film as the inspiration for a Final Battle set would be an opportunity to return to the Fantastic Four's characters while experimenting with minifigures and models to create a unique figure based on Johnny Storm's power-combining moments in the film's fight between him and Doctor Doom. LEGO minifigure parts don't often intermingle with standard pieces (outside of legs on studs and bars in hands). However, they are compatible, and it would be the best way to recreate the flames, rocky skin and the stretching in one minifigure.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2: Spider-Man vs. Electro
With existing LEGO display sets based on both Tobey Maguire and Tom Holland's takes on Spider-Man, it's hopefully only a matter of time until Andrew Garfield's depiction of the character features in his own movie model. A diorama based on The Amazing Spider-Man 2's battle at the power plant between the titular character and Electro is one method of finding a place for the character in LEGO Marvel.
The tall pylons of the power plant are the foundations for a taller LEGO Epic Battle set, using transparent pieces to depict Spider-Man swinging around and baiting Electro, held aloft by transparent pieces and blue electricity elements. The LEGO Marvel design team has already approached Tobey Maguire's final solo Spider-Man movie; surely it's time for the last solo Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movie to receive similar treatment.
X-Men: Days of Future Past: Free Mutants vs. Sentinels
An X-Men movie-inspired Epic Battle set is another good path for the collection, and while most of the X-Men movie fights could be recreated with mostly minifigures, the confrontation with the Sentinels at the start of X-Men: Days of Future Past is the best fit for a buildable LEGO model.
A recreation of the futuristic Sentinels, contrasting with the classic designs seen in current LEGO Marvel sets, paired with at least Colossus, Iceman and Sunspot minifigures, is a great foundation for a LEGO Marvel Epic Battle model.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse: Spider-Man vs. Kingpin
Our last suggestion will switch from live-action to animation. The world of the Spider-Verse movies is still relatively new territory for the LEGO Group, but with a full set and a minifigure series based on the second film under their belt, this is evidently an area in which the LEGO Marvel team are interested.
The first film could still be relevant in the context of an Epic Battle set, and the colourful final confrontation between Spider-Man and Kingpin is practically made for a LEGO set, leaning into the colourful side of the film more than any other Marvel movie allows. Kingpin is much too big to be a minifigure, and it would be intriguing to see how LEGO Marvel's designers choose to recreate his bulky form.
While there's plenty of potential in the Epic Battle builds, only
