A rumoured minifigure line-up for a possible LEGO Marvel X-Men set for 2024 highlights an ongoing trend.
Now all but confirmed via a retailer listing, 76821 X-Men Jet is rumoured to be coming in January 2024 according to mtdbricks and exabrickslegogo_ on Instagram, including four minifigures believed to be Wolverine, Magneto, Cyclops, and a mystery character in its 359 pieces for $79.99. These latest rumours, if proven to be true, would mean that Wolverine would feature in every single LEGO X-Men set that's been released since 2012.
There have been four sets in the sub-theme: 6866 Wolverine's Chopper Showdown, 76022 X-Men vs. The Sentinel, 76202 Wolverine Mech Armour, and the rumoured 2024 set, 76281 X-Men Jet. All four of them include a minifigure Wolverine and even a recently-released LEGO Marvel set, 76250 Wolverine's Adamantium Claws, has a Wolverine connection, even if there's no minifigure. Even 71039 Marvel Series 2 contained an updated Wolverine minifigure. Safe to say, we're not short on them – and some fans are wishing for more diversity.
The comments on exabrickslegogo_'s Instagram post about the rumours demonstrate that the prolific appearances of Wolverine are starting to grate on X-Men fans, with one writing: "Seriously we've been getting way too many Wolverines. I hope they don't reuse the CMF version", while another agreed: "Wolverine showing up here again is disappointing. I would much prefer a new character."
You can see the logic of Wolverine's appearances: he's probably one of the most well-known and popular X-Men characters and will soon feature once again in Deadpool 3 (despite apparently ending the character's arc with Hugh Jackman's face in Logan). However, with literally dozens of possible X-Men characters to choose from, we'd hope that if 76821 X-Men Jet proves popular in 2024, more LEGO X-Men sets could appear – with more range in their minifigure line-ups. Jean Grey, Rogue, Gambit, or Mystique are all similarly popular X-Men figures who have never appeared as minifigures, so perhaps it's finally time (please).
For now, we should of course take these rumours about the line-up of the 2024 LEGO Marvel set with a pinch of salt. While the set itself has been confirmed by a third-party retailer's listing, the exact details are still subject to change until we get official confirmation from the LEGO Group.
