New LEGO The Lord of the Rings contest comes with huge prize

A new LEGO The Lord of the Rings challenge is now open on LEGO Ideas, inviting users to get building for a party and earn a huge prize package.

The latest contest on LEGO Ideas starts now, and two others are due to end with their results later this week. The new challenge takes us to Middle-earth, specifically to The Shire, to celebrate the birthday party of your dreams.

Much like Bilbo's birthday is being celebrated in 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire, the brief for this challenge is to build a birthday party scene set in The Shire, but it can celebrate whatever you like. There are two notable exceptions to the usual rules: You can use The Lord of the Rings minifigures and references, as this is a licensed contest. Any other IP's minifigures and Easter eggs are prohibited as usual.

You've got until August 6 to build your party scene with a fan vote on up to five finalists on August 25. The grand prize winner will be announced on September 22 (Bilbo and Frodo's birthday), and the winner will take home 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell, 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire and 10367 The Lord of the Rings: Balrog Book Nook, all signed by a LEGO designer.

Two runners-up will win just 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire and 10367 The Lord of the Rings: Balrog Book Nook, not signed by anyone and the other two finalists will be able to add 10367 The Lord of the Rings: Balrog Book Nook to their collection, on its own.

10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr is the only current LEGO The Lord of the Rings set, not including gifts-with-purchase, exempt from the prize packages, but even without the £399.99 / $459.99 / €459.99 set, these are still some tempting prize packages.

Get building and submit your entry on the official challenge page before August 8, and everything in the prize packages is currently available to purchase, with the most recent release being 10367 The Lord of the Rings: Balrog Book Nook.
