New LEGO Batmobiles aim to 'focus on something closer to the movie'

Two of the new LEGO Batmobiles launching in 2026 have a new, more refined goal compared to their last sets, even if it sacrifices play features.

There's a new collection of Batmobile sets launching in 2026 with three entries coming in March. While one of them is a brand-new vehicle for the LEGO Group, two are much more familiar and revisit Batmobiles we've seen in LEGO DC before. These are 76331 Batman v Superman Batmobile and 76332 The Batman Batmobile, revisiting 76045 Kryptonite Interception and 76181 Batmobile: The Penguin Chase, respectively.

The design team behind these builds have shared insight into what they kept in mind when remaking these models, including why the new builds feature no distinct play features.

"We go back and forth to see what makes sense to carry over to the new sets, but also, we're giving them a more premium feel with that nice detailing," said designer Tin Nguyen to Jay’s Brick Blog and RacingBrick. "I think the previous The Batman Batmobile had a play feature, but that added an extra layer of complexity, so we decided to focus on different things in the new set."

76332 The Batman Batmobile isn't the only new Batmobile to eschew a play feature compared to its last set. 76331 Batman v Superman Batmobile has had a pair of stud shooters removed as well. Senior LEGO Designer Adam Grabowski was on hand to explain why that play feature is nowhere to be seen in the 2026 model, too.

"We didn't put shooters on these new sets and focused on one minifigure only, so no villain, which, once in a while, would feel squeezed in for no apparent reason," shared Adam. "That lets us spend what an extra figure would be on the build itself and approach things in a way that we wouldn't do for a younger audience. They are quite monochromatic inside, just keeping it a little bit higher in the age group."

Each of the new LEGO Batmobiles only has one minifigure, and you can see what else the design team had to say about the lack of a second minifigure in these new Batmobiles by clicking here. It further emphasises that these builds are part of a singular collection with enhanced detail, similar to the builds in LEGO Speed Champions. That focus on detail over play was an important factor in creating this collection.

"We believe that when we focus on something closer to what it looks like in the movie and sacrifice the two spring shooters we had in the last set, we can do something significantly different," detailed LEGO DC Creative Lead Jesper Nielsen regarding 76331 Batman v Superman Batmobile.

The three new LEGO Batmobiles launch on March 1, 2026, with unlockable content for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight. Here's a look at everything currently confirmed and rumoured LEGO DC for next year.
