My April LEGO shopping list: Aviation, Tintin and Mach 8 must-haves

When it comes to new LEGO sets being released on April 1, 2026, my shopping list of must-haves reflects this month’s line-up of quality over quantity.

The start of next month may be a little quieter than usual, but there are still plenty of great LEGO sets that I’ll be picking up tomorrow. Despite only a handful of builds making it on to store shelves on April 1, there’s a definite sense of quality over quantity when it comes to must-have models currently on my LEGO shopping list.

While that does mean I’ll be spending much more than I usually would on LEGO sets in a typical month, each of the recommendations listed below are well-worth your time and will definitely make excellent additions to my own ever-expanding brick-built collection.

First up is 11378 Douglas DC-3 PAN AM Airliner, a 1,903-piece LEGO Icons model that retails for £199.99 / $219.99 / €219.99 and is available for Insiders members first from April 1. I’m a sucker for aircraft from the golden age of aviation and this classic plane should look right at home next to my various LEGO Indiana Jones builds.

The 1930s twin-engine aircraft represents a true slice of aircraft history, perfectly reflected in the eye-catching design of 11378 Douglas DC-3 PAN AM Airliner, with its distinctive white and blue livery and signature fuselage stripe.

In addition, the LEGO Icons set also features some basic functionality, thanks to retractable landing gear, spinning propellors and a removable cockpit and passenger cabin panel. What’s more, a selection of four impressive minifigures are a nod to decades of the airline’s world-renowned PAN AM crew, perfectly encapsulating stylish travel from a bygone era.

Speaking of blasts from the past, my next shopping choice is 21367 Tintin Moon Rocket, 1,283-piece LEGO Ideas set priced at £139.99 / $159.99 / €159.99. Taking its cues from two of Hergé’s classic comic tales, Destination Moon and Explorers on the Moon, the model boasts delicate curves and a red and white checkerboard design, perfectly capturing its fan-favourite source material.

A closer look at 21367 Tintin Moon Rocket reveals there’s more to the model than first meets the eye though, with the middle of the craft bulging out slightly, representing some clever building techniques being employed by the LEGO Ideas team.

Unlike Alexis Dos Santos’ original fan submission, 21367 Tintin Moon Rocket comes with a near-perfect line-up of orange space suit-wearing minifigures in the shape of Tintin, Captain Haddock, Professor Calculus, and Thomson and Thompson, plus an all-new element for Snowy the dog, although the clever canine is lacking his own helmet.

Rounding out my April 1 shopping list is 72050 Luigi & Mach 8, the follow-up to last year’s very well-received 72037 Mario & Standard Kart. Coming in at 2,234 pieces for £159.99 / $179.99 / €179.99, the LEGO Super Mario set is the perfect companion for the previous Nintendo video game build, even if it is a slightly pricier purchase.

72050 Luigi & Mach 8 takes what worked so well in 72037 Mario & Standard Kart and boosts it further, with a much more stylish and elongated vehicle to assemble, one that has larger tyres and a fun flaming exhaust feature.

The LEGO Super Mario model sits on its own brick-built stand for dynamic display poses and Luigi himself has a moveable head, arms and hands. When combined with 72037 Mario & Standard Kart and 40787 Spiny Shell, fans will have the makings of a truly impressive video game starting line-up.
