A handful of the 100 or so LEGO sets newly confirmed to retire this year are already on back order in some regions – while a couple are sold out altogether…
Consider this fair warning that the retiring sets on your wishlist might not last all the way through the end of December. The LEGO Group has confirmed roughly 100 sets leaving shelves this year, and several of them are already either on back order, temporarily out of stock or completely sold out in various territories. The same could easily happen to those still available long before 2025 comes to a close.
Sets currently affected include 76178 Daily Bugle, which is on back order until October 1 in the UK and temporarily out of stock in the US; 75978 Diagon Alley, which is back-ordered until October 31 in the UK and completely sold out in the US; and 21343 Viking Village, which is available now in the UK but on back order until October 9 in the US.
Also on back order in the UK are 43222 Disney Castle,
It’s impossible to say how many copies of each set remain at LEGO.com, but if a product is already on back order, it seems likely that it’s going to be more difficult to come by as the days and weeks press on. The gamble at this time of year is always whether to wait for a particular sale, double points event or gift-with-purchase, or to pull the trigger as soon as possible to make sure you don’t miss out altogether.
Timing is key, but it’s a bit like trying to time the stock market: in short, good luck.
