Legendary video game creator Hideo Kojima has wasted no time in picking up the LEGO Group’s latest set dedicated to retro video games.
The LEGO Group’s foremost enthusiast in the video game industry, Hideo Kojima is constantly sharing snaps of himself with his latest box of bricks. Last year saw the Metal Gear Solid creator add 10300 Back to the Future Time Machine, 21333 Vincent van Gogh – The Starry Night and 75331 The Razor Crest to his collection, and now 10323 PAC-MAN Arcade has joined that growing list.
No prizes for guessing that this might have been on the cards all along. Video game guru buys video game merchandise is not exactly a case worthy of Sherlock Holmes. But it’s testament to the instant appeal and iconicity of 10323 PAC-MAN Arcade that Kojima has grabbed it within days of its launch (it only went on sale to VIPs on June 1, and non-VIPs June 4).
The 2,651-piece LEGO Icons set follows last summer’s 10306 Atari 2600 and 2020’s 71374 Nintendo Entertainment System in the retro gaming space, delivering a replica of the classic PAC-MAN arcade machine from the ‘80s. And it actually (sort of) works, as a crank sends the inimitable yellow chomper around a pre-set path, pursued by his ghostly pals.
Kojima’s got a fun time ahead putting the set together – apart from those plates full of Technic pins for the screen, perhaps – and you can join him by picking up your own copy right now, if you like. You’ll at least be in good company. Don’t forget to check out our review of 10323 PAC-MAN Arcade if you’re still on the fence.
