Formula 1 team McLaren has announced its latest gaming partner, which could finally breathe some fun into LEGO Formula 1.
McLaren Racing has announced a new partnership with Sonic the Hedgehog, dubbing the Blue Blur the Formula 1 team's 'official gaming partner'. Although details have not yet been made public, it brings together two existing LEGO partners for potential future collaborations.
"Introducing the newest member of the papaya family, @sonicthehedgehog," reads the announcement from McLaren.
We had high hopes for what the LEGO Formula 1 collection could look like and, although there have been some impressive releases, the range lacks some of the creativity and imagination that LEGO Space enjoyed in 2024, for example. However, combining LEGO Formula 1 and LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog into some racing-fuelled Sonic sets could be a fun way to play around with the fledgling theme.
Imagine a papaya mech to show down against Dr Eggman, or a McLaren race car that can hunt down Sonic's rings. Of course, we might be getting ahead of ourselves, considering McLaren Racing and Sonic haven't revealed what the collaboration will entail. That said, it opens up some doors that could breathe some much-needed life into the Formula 1 collection.
