Four possibilities for LEGO’s rumoured unlicensed book nook

Four possibilities for LEGO’s rumoured unlicensed book nook

The next LEGO book nook is rumoured to be unlicensed, meaning the possibilities could reach every corner of the LEGO system.

According to freshly reported LEGO rumours, another brick-built book nook could be on the way in October, known only as 11379 Unlicensed Booknook for the moment. Said to be made up of 1,690 pieces for $129.99 in the US and €129.99 in Europe, the set could be the biggest LEGO book nook yet in terms of piece count if the rumours prove to be true.

All of the LEGO book nooks have been based on specific books, mostly from third-party partners like Harry Potter and The Lord of the Rings. The rumoured name of 11379 seems to suggest the LEGO Group could be stepping away from that, although it could be that it's based on a book that's in the public domain, like 10351 Sherlock Holmes: Book Nook.

That said, generic book nooks are all the rage among the reading community right now, so jumping on that bandwagon would be a savvy move from the LEGO Group. Some are even build-your-own book nooks, a niche that a LEGO version could very easily tap into.

We've got a few ideas of what themes or locations could work well for a possible LEGO book nook, starting off with...

A slice of fantasy

The first, and perhaps most obvious, is a fantasy or castle-themed book nook. We've already adapted 31168 Medieval Horse Knight Castle into a book nook thanks to an alternative build here, but with fantasy experiencing a massive boom in the publishing industry right now, a specifically magical one would surely go down a treat with both LEGO fans and readers alike.

Think 21348 Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon's Tale, but shrunk down to slot in amongst the best fantasy reads. Perhaps it could depict a miniature castle, or a medieval street like the build pictured above. Alternatively, a book nook could dive into a hidden treasure trove guarded by a dragon, or a magical forest.

All of those ideas and more have already been made into non-LEGO book nooks, so the appetite is clearly there – and there's definitely enough of an overlap with LEGO Castle fans.

A brick-built library

Catering more to readers than hardcore LEGO fans, we've already had a taste of what a LEGO library could look like in the gift-with-purchase, 40698 Books Are My Passion. However, we've never actually had an official LEGO library build, and what better way to rectify that than in a LEGO book nook?

Parking a collection of tiny brick-built books in amongst your real books is the kind of meta building that many readers and LEGO fans would love. The books could even include nods to iconic books or parts of LEGO history – or include tiny LEGO sets, like in 60440 Yellow Delivery Truck, to mix in amongst the reading material.

A bookshop within books

Along the same theme, another popular idea for non-LEGO book nooks are tiny bookshops. We've already had 10270 Bookshop, but that's long retired now. nook that peers down a long line of books, perhaps with sliding ladders for minifigures to access the highest tomes, would make for some incredibly cosy vibes.

Alternatively, an unlicensed book nook could adopt a similar structure to 10351 Sherlock Holmes: Book Nook, depicting a bustling shopping street – only this time kitted out with a book shop or even a LEGO store for more meta storytelling.

Journey into space, for sci-fi and LEGO fans

For a more out-there approach, LEGO Space never fails to impress. It has a book tie-in with the sci-fi genre as well, but even if you're not a sci-fi reader, who wouldn't want a sliver of the stars to tuck in amongst their books?

The closed-off nature of a book nook could be an effective way to create a contained night's sky, given the lack of light that enters the back of a book nook. Another option could be a spin on a space-themed laboratory, similar to 60439 Space Science Lab pictured above.

Of course, this is all speculation for now, so take any rumoured details with a pinch of salt until we get official confirmation from the LEGO Group.
