Step into Morticia Addams' gothic abode in LEGO Wednesday 76786 Morticia's Cottage, dripping in dark luxury and Wednesday-themed references.
76786 Morticia's Cottage is based on Rotwood Cottage, as seen in Wednesday Season 2 on Netflix. It translates the gothic home into LEGO, featuring four mini-dolls as all LEGO Wednesday sets have done so far. Reasonably-priced at £89.99 / $109.99 / €99.99 for just over 1,000 pieces, it might be tempting to both Wednesday fans and fans of gothic architecture – but is it worth your time and LEGO budget?

As a build, 76786 Morticia's Cottage is surprisingly intricate. The interior rooms are relatively cramped, given the size of the model, with much of the piece count given over to the detailed exterior. The three wings of the house (left, right, and centre) all hinge out to allow access to the interior, so the confined space doesn't mean you suffer when it comes to play or display.
That hinge feature is achieved very simply through attachable grip elements, but the end result is very impressive. When closed, the house takes up a very small footprint, while showing off its best features on the front facade to great effect. Special mention here has to go to the simple but effective gables, where dark blue elements pop nicely off the largely black and dark grey backdrop.
When opened up, however, you can arrange the house in any layout you please – or even pull it apart again fairly easily. Not only does this offer a play-ready set that doesn't take up too much space, which is sure to be popular with younger builders and their caregivers, it also debuts an ingenious approach to play versus display.
With most LEGO sets, you have to choose between play or display – and often pay a premium for the latter. In 76786 Morticia's Cottage, you get both, without any major sacrifices made on either side.
The detail on the exterior of the house is impressive, especially at this size and price point. Although they're stickered, the stained glass-effect windows allow glimpses into the interior, while also elevating the house to Morticia Addams' level of class. Even if some of the details are lacking on the interior, there's still enough nods to the TV show to please Wednesday fans and offer changes for play and recreating scenes.
76786 Morticia's Cottage effortlessly blends the boundary between play set and display model. That's not to say it's perfect: it is admittedly tricky to arrange the mini-dolls inside, especially ones with a lot of furniture like Morticia's living room. You'll find that Morticia tends to topple on to the floor more often than not, but she looks good enough displayed out front of the house that you won't mind too much.
To round out the set, there's also a brick-built Addams' family car. It's not quite show-accurate, with it much shorter than the stretched car we see on Netflix. Indeed, the translation of the source material from the live-action show is not quite accurate: the side sections of the house reach higher than they do on screen, and there's a lot more black on the LEGO set than in reality.
Nonetheless, it fits with the overall Morticia atmosphere of the set and makes for a more vibrant model in the end, so you can overlook some creative license being taken. If you look at 76786 Morticia's Cottage as more of a LEGO-fied interpretation of the source material, you'll be satisfied. If all you're looking for is an engaging build with some creative build techniques and a gothic style, then you'll be far more than satisfied.
Our honest opinion: 76786 Morticia's Cottage uses some simple but creative building techniques to blur the line between play and display in the best possible way.
