The LEGO Group has been accused of running an ‘intentionally misleading’ ad for its new Iron Man statue, with one builder left ‘disappointed’ by the functionality of the finished model.
Redditor polyphonicboy posted a clip from an official LEGO Instagram video for January’s 76344 Iron Man Mark 3 Collectors' Edition to the r/lego subreddit this week, with the caption ‘misleading promotion for Iron Man Mark 3’. The editing of the video seems to suggest that the Arc Reactor in the figure’s chest illuminates when pressed, which is not a function of the finished product.
“I can't be the only one who saw this on LEGO’s Instagram and thought the Arc Reactor in the chest lit up,” polyphonicboy said. “I pre-ordered the set right away, finally got delivered on January 9, built it over the weekend and was disappointed at the end to find there's no light feature. The video was intentionally misleading [in my opinion].”
They’re not alone, either: dozens of commenters have chimed in agreeing that the ad is ‘super misleading’, ‘outright deceptive’ and ‘clearly made to look like you push it in and it lights up’. “If I saw that ad I'd definitely think it lights up,” said AshleyWJ_. “I know [the LEGO Group] doesn't do lighting stuff very often, but that could totally be mistaken.”

Compounding the notion that Iron Man’s chest lights up is the fact that previous buildable Iron Man figures have incorporated exactly that function using a light brick – including 2022’s 76206 Iron Man Figure – so it wasn’t unfair to assume that the LEGO Group might have managed the same with 76344 Iron Man Mark 3 Collectors' Edition.
The issue has already been flagged to the LEGO Group via the LEGO Ambassador Network, and a spokesperson for the company says it’s been reported to customer service and will be reviewed by the appropriate team. Keep an eye on Brick Fanatics for any further updates as and when we get them.
76344 Iron Man Mark 3 Collectors' Edition is available now, but bear in mind before you order that the chest doesn’t light up. Check out our review here.
