LEGO Technic March 2025 mid-range sets reviews

Alongside two headliners, LEGO Technic welcomes three colourful and compact sets to its mid-range line-up this March.

The Ferrari and Red Bull Formula 1 cars may be taking all the early attention this March in the new Technic range, but the three support acts offer a variety of equally-interesting models at far more affordable prices.

42205 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

Continuing Technic’s line of mid-size supercar builds is 42205 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. Technic has found a formula that works here and off the back of the likes of 42161 Lamborghini Huracán Tecnica and 42184 Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut White Hypercar (or its twin, 42173 Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut Grey Hypercar), 42205 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray follows a very similar build design, albeit with the obvious differences in place to capture the unique bodywork stylings of the Stingray.

It means that if you’ve built a mid-range Technic supercar lately then you’ll know exactly what to expect here and won’t have too many surprises in store. That being said, these models are really excellent and it’s fair reason for why Technic isn't straying too far from what it has established.

If you want a taste of the detail and expertise that previously may have only been best found in the largest, most expensive supercar Technic sets, it is this continuing collection that offers something really fun and that now welcomes 42205 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray to its line-up.

42204 Fast and Furious Toyota Supra MK4

Release: March 1, 2025 Price: £54.99 / $59.99 / €59.99 Pieces: 810 Minifigures: 0 LEGO: Order now

On paper, 42204 Fast and Furious Toyota Supra MK4 looks like it follows a lot of the same design rules as 42205 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and that line of supercars. It begins to, but then veers slightly back to a simpler construction style. There are elements of what makes the Stingray so interesting to be found in the Supra here too, but in part through the boxier design and slightly larger scale, 42204 struggles to hold the same attention in assembly.

This is the second car from 2001’s The Fast and the Furious to get the Technic treatment, after 2020’s 42111 Dom’s Dodge Charger. They are built at different scales and any comparison will only highlight where doubling the price for the Supra could unlock a completely different build altogether.

42204 Fast and Furious Toyota Supra MK4 isn’t the most interesting mid-range Technic set releasing in March, it’s not the most engaging Technic set from the Fast and the Furious franchise yet either. But there are things going for it, including how within a smaller budget and piece count than 42111 it credibly recreates the on-screen car it is based on thanks to some clever bodywork building – the subtle angle that the hood is placed at is a particular detail to appreciate.

Likewise there are nods to the 1994 car that was substantially updated by Dominic Toretto and his team in the film, from the modded headlights at the front to the bi-plane rear wing at the back, and even the blue suede and black leather seats and some of the silly audiovisual paraphernalia inside.

Fast and Furious fans are likely still a relatively new audience to Technic and with fresh eyes and fingers can find enough enjoyment in 42204 Fast and Furious Toyota Supra MK4. For more experienced Technic fans there’s something unique to find within this model, but save your highest expectations for other vehicles at this price-point.

42203 Tipping Dump Truck

Release: March 1, 2025 Price: £44.99 / $49.99 / €49.99 Pieces: 462 Minifigures: 0 LEGO: Order now

42203 Tipping Dump Truck is the most affordable set of the March 2025 Technic range, yet still offers a reasonably substantial and involved build, with a final model with satisfying functionality and appearance to boot.

Erm… what more can we say? The doors open, the vehicle steers and the lid tips back – the latter two functions controlled through separate knobs to twist. 42203 Tipping Dump Truck is one of the most ‘does what it says on the box’ Technic sets we’ve seen in a while, and that’s by no means a criticism, but it leaves little room for surprise.

The tightness with which the bodywork of the cabin comes together is perhaps an underrated aspect to the build – there are subtle angles to parts and clever parts usage to others that combine to recreate something that will have your eyes glaze over and immediately see a real-world alternative.

42203 is a clever build doing what it can with its parts count and can make an excellent step-up for younger Technic builders looking to understand some of the finer workings to bodywork and chassis structure in particular.

These sets were provided for review by the LEGO Group.
