Take a closer look at the impressive line-up of LEGO Star Trek minifigures that have beamed aboard 10356 USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D.
The first-ever LEGO Star Trek set will warp online and into stores on Black Friday, when 10356 USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D launches on November 28. In addition to the massive 3,600-piece Federation flagship itself, the LEGO Icons set also comes with an out-of-this-world selection of nine minifigures based on fan-favourite characters from Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Let’s take a closer look at the LEGO Star Trek set’s minifigure line-up and discover just how well some of the 24th century universe’s greatest heroes have been recreated in brick form.
Captain Jean-Luc Picard
The USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D’s commanding officer looks resplendent in his Season 3 Starfleet uniform, complete with V-neck collar and chest ComBadge, featuring front and back torso printing, printed arms and cup of Earl Grey tea, hot. The only slight niggles regarding the minifigure are a lack of any hair printing on the back of the head and the red of the torso not quite matching that of the arms.
Commander William Riker
Picard’s trusty first officer also boasts the exact same black and red uniform as his captain (complete with similar colour issues), as well as two different facial expressions. Commander William Riker also comes with the first ever brick-built trombone in various gold elements, with the musical instrument receiving its own stand for when there’s no call for impromptu subspace jazz sessions.
Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge
One of the LEGO Star Trek set’s stand-out minifigures is the ship’s chief engineer, Lieutenant Commander Geordi La Forge, who has a double-sided head print showing his VISOR device and a Starfleet engineering case. As with all operations, engineering and security crew members, Geordi wears a gold and black uniform, although the colours on the minifigure's torso do look more yellow in person, while the arms are a slight shade of orange.
Lieutenant Commander Data
Fan-favourite Lieutenant Commander Data wears the same uniform as his shipmate and friend, Geordi, and has tan-like skin and hands that attempt to mimic the slightly golden look of the Soong-type android’s skin. Data has two different facial expressions that showcase the character’s yellow eyes, and comes with a cat figure of his faithful companion, Spot, who, as in Star Trek: The Next Generation, doesn’t actually have any spots.
Lieutenant Worf
Next up is Lieutenant Worf, another highlight of the LEGO Star Trek set, mostly due to his brand new dual-moulded head and hair piece that perfectly captures the Klingon’s bony cranial forehead ridges. In addition to a double-sided head print, Worf’s gold and black uniform features his silver baldric and a traditional Klingon sash worn over one shoulder, while the Enterprise’s chief security officer also comes with a printed 1x1 slope Type 2 phaser.
Dr. Beverly Crusher
The Enterprise-D’s chief medical officer receives her own blue and black Starfleet uniform, one that has less of the odd colour issues that the rest of her crewmates suffer from. Dr. Beverly Crusher has a brown hair piece last seen in
Counsellor Deanna Troi
The ship’s counsellor is present and correct in the shape of Deanna Troi, who wears a purple/lilac V-neck jumpsuit, mostly seen during the TV show’s second and third seasons. The Betazoid also has what seems to be a new black hair piece, two different facial expressions and carries a printed PADD (Personal Access Display Device) that has a fun schematic of a LEGO brick on it.
Guinan
Yet another fan-favourite Star Trek: The Next Generation character also comes with the LEGO Icons set, enigmatic bartender Guinan. As with Worf and Deanna, the Ten-Forward bartender is the only other minifigure to gain an all-new element – her dual-moulded hat and hair piece. The character’s torso features printed front and back images, she has a double-sided head print and can hold a green bottle of non-synthehol Aldebaran whiskey.
Wesley Crusher
Rounding out 10356 USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D’s character line-up is teenager Wesley Crusher. Beverly’s son has two facial expressions, mid-sized legs and a grey acting ensign sweater, with coloured stripes representing Starfleet Academy’s three main divisions. Wesley also gains a small brick-built portable tractor beam generator accessory, as seen in the Season 1 episode 'The Naked Now'.
With so many Star Trek: The Next Generation characters to choose from, the LEGO Icons design team has managed to excel at the selection included in the licensed set. From perfect facial expressions, a handful of new elements and spot-on accessories for each crew member, the model’s minifigures represent Starfleet’s finest futuristic faces.
