LEGO Speed Champions 2026 Disney Cars set needs a friend

The first LEGO Speed Champions 2026 Disney Cars set needs a certain friend, which would take the theme in an unfamiliar direction.

77255 Lightning McQueen was revealed only earlier this month, and the return of LEGO Cars System sets has already been met with excitement from Disney and Pixar fans online, including one enthusiast who has been inspired to give McQueen the perfect companion.

77255 Lightning McQueen is the only LEGO Speed Champions set confirmed for 2025 so far, and rumours for the theme's 2026 slate suggest that there won't be another set inspired by a living vehicle in the near future. Besbasdesign doesn't want 77255 Lightning McQueen to feel lonely, though, already drafting scaled builds of Strip 'The King' Weathers and Tow Mater.

The builds show that LEGO Speed Champions' scale can be adapted for other Cars characters. Besbasdesign's method for depicting Tow Mater's teeth is especially good. While The King works within the concept of fast cars, which Speed Champions is known for, Tow Mater isn't quite as quick – unless equipped with his rockets from Cars 2.

That's not to say that vehicles not known for their speed have no place in LEGO Speed Champions. 75875 Ford F-150 Raptor & Ford Model A Hot Rod features a truck at a similar size to Besbasdesign's custom creation. Such a direction is anything but familiar territory for the LEGO theme compared to high-speed cars.

Whether the LEGO Speed Champions team will be similarly inspired by 77255 Lightning McQueen to delve further into the Cars universe for future sets or not, you can expect the unique Speed Champions model to be released on January 1, 2026, for £22.99 / $27.99 / €27.99.
