LEGO SMART Play has arrived in eight Star Wars sets, creating reviews of confusion, excitement and disappointment on the official store.

There has been much discussion in the online community regarding LEGO SMART Play and the eight Star Wars sets that introduced the system earlier this month. After over a week of discovering exactly what the system has to offer, reviews are starting to flood in on LEGO.com, and they're about as mixed as you'd expect based on the initial reactions.

The eight sets on LEGO.com have reviews averaging around just below three stars, though the number of people leaving reviews varies wildly. While 75425 Mos Eisley Cantina has just one review, 75423 Luke's Red Five X-Wing has 26, 40% of which rewarded it five stars and 43% of which gave the set one star.

Here's a quick overview of the reviews of the eight LEGO Star Wars SMART Play sets on LEGO.com at the time of writing.

The contents of the written reviews vary, mostly depending on the audience reviewing them.

"I love Lego Star Wars, I saw this set at Walmart and decided to pick it up," writes ChiefReliableMosquito100 regarding 75423 Luke's Red Five X-Wing. "The build experience was very fun, with it divided into separate mini sets with different instructions. My kids LOVE the SMART Brick play features. I know there are a lot of complaints from adults about these sets, but remember, this is a kids' toy. And my kids love it!"

Reviews such as this are common from parents and grandparents, stating that their children are having a good time with the interactive play features. Not all of the reviews from this audience are so positive, though. One revealed a tale of misunderstanding based on the box art of one model.

"There is nothing smart about this set," states ColonelGentleBadger100 on the page for 75424 AT-ST Attack on Endor. "My son was very disappointed to find out that there was no smart brick included in the set.

"He saw the SMART Play logo and didn't notice the small 'compatible' print under the logo. It wouldn't be so bad if you could order a smart brick separately so that you can use the set as intended, but the only way to get one is to buy one of the ridiculously priced sets that actually have them. Not impressed, this feels like a mean marketing trick."

Reviews from older fans purchasing the set for themselves are much more critical, noting the overall value of each set compared to the price and the quality of the sound effects. The split between reviews from parents buying the sets for their children and older enthusiasts is stark, though there are mixed reviews on both sides.

You can see what Matthew and some members of SMART Play's target audience thought about these sets and this new system in our recent video. While we will be keeping a close eye on SMART Play as it evolves, it would appear that this is a concept designed primarily for younger fans, which should be kept in mind.
