The LEGO Group has shuffled around the retiring dates for the new January 2025 Mario Kart sets before they’ve even left the starting grid.
Six new LEGO Super Mario sets hooked to the plumber’s legendary kart racer are drifting on to shelves next month, five of which were originally slated to retire within 12 months of their release: a short but fast-paced production cycle. The sixth, 72031 Yoshi Bike, was then due to stay in the race until the end of 2026. But that’s all changed even before these sets have arrived in stores.
The full range of LEGO Mario Kart 2025 sets is now scheduled to retire by July 31, 2026. That’s an extra six months in production for most of them (with the exception of the aforementioned 72031 Yoshi Bike, which is moving in the other direction). If nothing changes between now and then, only five of the current LEGO Super Mario sets will still be in production by August 2026.
There’s still plenty of time for the pack to shuffle around again, of course – this race isn’t over until the last blue shell has been fired, the last banana skin has been dropped and the last Bullet Bill has returned a driver from 12th to 1st place. You’ll be able to test out the LEGO Mario Kart sets – which are fully compatible with the Mario, Luigi and Peach digital figures – from January 1, 2025.
Check out the full list of LEGO Super Mario sets organised by their current retirement dates below, and pay close attention to what’s leaving shelves next year – you’ve only got 12 months left (at most) to pick up 71411 The Mighty Bowser as things stand.
