The LEGO Group has missed two open goals with its latest Formula 1 model, continuing issues fans have criticised for years.
The latest LEGO Formula 1 expansion brings Aston Martin’s 2025 challenger to life in 42240 Aston Martin Aramco AMR25 F1 Car, a 1,547-piece Technic set. However, the model suffers from two major accuracy issues.
The most obvious problem is the colour. The real AMR25 features Aston Martin’s distinctive metallic racing green, but the LEGO version uses a much brighter shade that looks closer to the green associated with Sauber. As a result, the model struggles to capture the appearance of the real car.
The discrepancy likely stems from the fact that the LEGO Group does not currently produce elements in Aston Martin’s signature metallic green and was unlikely to develop an entirely new colour specifically for this set, although teal may have been a closer match.
The second issue continues a long-running problem with LEGO Technic Formula 1 cars: the tyres. Despite repeated feedback from fans following releases such as 42206 Oracle Red Bull Racing RB20 F1 Car and LEGO Technic 42207 Ferrari SF-24 F1 Car, the LEGO Group has once again used tyres that do not accurately reflect the proportions of a real Formula 1 car.
In Formula 1, the rear tyres are significantly wider than the fronts, often by 30% to 50%, to maximise traction and handle the immense power delivered to the rear axle. Yet the large-scale F1 models the LEGO Group produces typically use tyres with identical widths front and rear.
The decision may come down to cost, as producing a new tyre mould would increase development expenses. Alternatively, the LEGO Group may prioritise consistency across its Formula 1 range. Whatever the reason, the result compromises accuracy.
Ultimately, 42240 Aston Martin Aramco AMR25 F1 Car feels like a step backwards from 42228 McLaren F1 Team MCL39 Race Car which was released in March.
Not only does it retain the tyre issue that drew criticism earlier this year, but it also fails to capture the most recognisable aspect of Aston Martin’s Formula 1 identity: its iconic racing green.
42240 Aston Martin Aramco AMR25 F1 Car will be released on July 1, 2026, as the LEGO Group’s fifth big Technic F1 car. It is available for pre-order now from LEGO.com at a price of £199.99 / $229.99 / €229.99.
