LEGO responds to errors in 76405 Hogwarts Express Collectors’ Edition

The LEGO Harry Potter team has responded to errors on 76405 Hogwarts Express Collectors’ Edition’s informational plaque, promising a solution is in the works.

When the latest LEGO Harry Potter set – which is the most expensive Wizarding World model to date, lest we forget – was initially revealed, it didn’t take long for the community to pick up on two mistakes in its informational plaque. First, it wrongly refers to King’s Cross Station in London as ‘King Cross Station’; and second, it describes the train as a GWR 5900 Class 5972 Locomotive.

Diehard train enthusiasts will know that the engine used for the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter movies is actually a 4900 Class. (There’s no such thing as a 5900 Class in real life.) It’s the kind of error only a select few will likely pick up on, but most of them are probably in the target audience for what is officially the LEGO Group’s largest locomotive of all time.

LEGO Harry Potter Design Lead Andrew Seenan has now confirmed to Brick Fanatics and other LEGO fan media that the company is aware of the mistakes in 76405 Hogwarts Express Collectors’ Edition.

“We’re looking internally into how this happened, but this is an error that you can't really unsee once you've seen it,” Seenan said, referring explicitly to the King’s Cross Station misspelling. “That will definitely be changed – we have a thing called a running change, which means that there will be a change as it goes into production.

"There will be some cases that have already been produced with that mistake on, and people that do have a mistake can call customer service and get the new sticker, no problem. But that will be changed in future production runs.”

The LEGO Group then confirmed in a follow-up email that the 5900 Class error will also be fixed at the same time, and future versions of 76405 Hogwarts Express Collectors’ Edition will include a sticker that refers to the train as a GWR 4900 Class 5972 Locomotive.

But with only a week to go until 76405 Hogwarts Express Collectors’ Edition choo choos its way into LEGO Stores, early adopters will have to make do with the incorrect spelling of King’s Cross Station for the time being. If you’re happy to play the waiting game for the replacement sticker, you’re probably best leaving the first one off, if only to save having to remove it later.

76405 Hogwarts Express Collectors’ Edition will be available from LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores from August 31, for £429.99 / $499.99 / €499.99.
