LEGO Pokémon’s playsets will only launch in six countries

Just like LEGO Star Wars’ SMART Play sets, the newly-revealed LEGO Pokémon playsets will only be available in a handful of countries at launch.

LEGO SMART Play is currently only available in the UK, US, Australia, France, Germany and Poland, and the same will be true for the first wave of LEGO Pokémon sets coming in August. If you’re based anywhere else in the world – like Denmark, for example – the only Pokémon LEGO sets available for purchase will remain the 18+ models that dropped in February.

That makes this small rollout especially tough to take, because while there are countless other LEGO Star Wars sets to check out beyond the SMART Play launch wave, the same can’t be said for Pokémon. And given the LEGO Group has been trumpeting its Pokémon licence for well over a year at this point, it’s surprising that the bulk of its sets won’t be accessible outside six markets.

There’s no word yet on when we can expect to see any LEGO SMART Play sets – whether Star Wars or Pokémon – expand to other countries, so if you’re not in one of those launch regions you may be waiting a while to try them out for yourself. Here's what the LEGO Group had to say about the situation back in January...

"It wasn’t launched globally, as LEGO SMART Play is a major transformative company-wide initiative that spans our entire value chain, from R&D to manufacturing and retail. Owing to the complexities of launching this innovative new platform we’ve phased launch to ensure the best customer experience we can.

"While we can’t share more information right now on further market availability, our teams are working really hard to get LEGO SMART Play to fans and builders across the world. Please stay tuned and we’ll share more information as soon as we can."

For now, you can at least browse through the sets you won’t be able to buy in the table below (in a ‘here’s what you could have won’ sort of way).
