LEGO is upgrading Pick a Brick with photorealistic renders

The LEGO Group is in the process of upgrading Pick a Brick with photorealistic renders of pieces, along with the ability to rotate and inspect individual elements.

Redditor Ninazuzu called attention to the change on the r/lego subreddit, suggesting that the new images could be actual photographs of LEGO pieces, or perhaps just high-quality renders. Fellow user Tohaker – who says they're a developer for Pick a Brick – then confirmed that they are indeed ‘photorealistic renders’.

“We also added rotations to the element details if you click on an element, so you can see alternate faces, torso prints, and other details previously unseen on the old renders,” they added. It looks like the new renders are being rolled out in phases, however, as they’re not showing to every member of the Brick Fanatics team at the moment.

Other redditors have confirmed that they can also see the new renders – including one who says that the entire site changed while they were in the process of adding pieces to their bag. “All of a sudden there was this huge lag and everything changed,” wrote PezCandyAndy. “I thought I was going crazy for a minute.

“Some silver and gold items look a little worse because they are darker and less metallic. Otherwise most everything looks a lot better though.”

The timing of this change feels spot on: the LEGO Group is currently in the middle of its latest double Insiders points event, which runs through June 16. That promo applies to Pick a Brick orders, and now you can browse through and select elements with a better idea than ever of what you’re picking up… as soon as the new renders go live in your region.

Head over to Pick a Brick now to check if the new renders are visible where you are.
