The rumoured LEGO Olivia Rodrigo set makes a lot more sense now

LEGO Editions’ rumoured wave of music-themed sets – including at least one tied to Olivia Rodrigo – are starting to make a lot more sense thanks to two new announcements.

43028 Olivia Rodrigo Vinyl Record is said to be launching in August 2026 alongside 43029 Turntable and 43031 Guitar, expanding the scope of LEGO Editions beyond football and Formula 1 to encompass music. The original rumour raised a few eyebrows back in March, but there are now two new contributing factors that give it a little more weight.

First is that Olivia Rodrigo has just announced her third album, ‘you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love’, is releasing June 12. The Disney-star-turned-solo-artist also revealed the album artwork on her social channels. If the LEGO Group has managed to time things right, 43028 Olivia Rodrigo Vinyl Record could depict that cover rather than either of her first two albums, 2021’s SOUR or 2023’s GUTS.

While the artwork is pretty understated – in line with Rodrigo’s first two records – it’s at least a little more visually interesting than either of its predecessors, depicting the singer upside down on a swing. But if this is indeed the subject matter of 43028, the real question is… will the LEGO Group also recreate the ‘parental advisory: explicit content’ label?

That in itself risks opening a can of worms here (many of Rodrigo’s lyrics aren’t exactly what you’d call kid-friendly), but the second new nugget of information from yesterday’s LEGO Editions announcement gives us a bigger clue to the LEGO Group’s intentions for this theme.

“LEGO Editions is a new platform that will connect young people with their icons and passions, creating a space to celebrate achievements and talent,” reads the press release for 43033 2026 U.S. Soccer National Team Jersey, 43013 Kylian Mbappé – Football Highlights and the rest of this week’s reveals. “It will include playful, collectible sets that fans can proudly display.”

That gives us a broader understanding of the intention of LEGO Editions, which up until now has been tricky to define. Sports belongs under this banner, and it’s easy to see how music could fit into it too. The focus on real-life footballers and Formula 1 drivers also paves the way for LEGO sets based on real-world musicians. Whether Olivia Rodrigo is just the tip of the iceberg on that front remains to be seen.

And that’s assuming the rumoured LEGO Editions music sets exist at all, of course. Until we get official confirmation from the LEGO Group, best to take them with a pinch of salt – but it’s fair to say the pieces are falling into place…
