LEGO Minifigures Series 29 spotlight: Soccer Goalkeeper

LEGO Minifigures Series 29 is taking aim at Editions with one of its minifigures, using the new theme to its advantage with a compatible character.

The Soccer Goalkeeper (or Football Goalkeeper for those of us across the pond) is one of the 12 new minifigures in 71052 Series 29, offering a more grounded character than the likes of the Mysterious Ronin and Unicorn Elf. This minifigure also just so happens to be launching near to the release of a footballer-focused LEGO Editions wave, in which he will fit perfectly.

The new Series 29 minifigure features fresh printing on the legs, torso and face, as well as a pair of dual-moulded legs depicting some stylish pink sneakers. The colour scheme of this minifigure is outlandishly vibrant, mixing lime green, teal and pink into one minifigure that is hard to ignore on the box of 71052 Series 29.

The face comes with two expressions. One is smiling as he anticipates another match, and the other is screaming with exertion, likely attempting to catch a football before someone scores a goal. Such a face print will be useful across a LEGO collection, such as lifting heavy items, charging into battle, and more.

The printed sneakers and overall detail of the 71052 Series 29 minifigure are similar to those of the new Editions footballer minifigures, most of which are based on real people. It means that the Soccer Goalkeeper won't look out of place among the new LEGO Editions models, but the connections to the new Editions builds don't stop there.

The new ball piece appears in both 71052 Series 29 and the new Editions dioramas, available in two designs later this year. This ball piece's history goes further back, too.

A similar element was first seen in LEGO Nike in 2025's 43008 Nike Dunk, but with indentations that make it a basketball, rather than a smooth ball.

This confirms that the Soccer Goalkeeper's accessory will be able to fit on a minifigure torso, though it's going to look more out of place than the Nike basketball head, with its lack of facial features. Alternatively, the bottom of the ball piece has a standard stud connection to be held in a minifigure's hands (when caught in the goal) or placed on a pitch.
