LEGO Marvel fans spot Doc Ock lurking in the shadows

LEGO Marvel fans think they've spotted a teaser in the shadows of an Instagram post – but are we reading into things too much here?

The LEGO Group shared a series of images on Instagram, promoting the recently released busts, 76326 Iron Spider-Man Bust and 76327 Iron Man MK4 Bust, with mock-ups of blueprints of the sets. On the third slide, some shadowy robotic hands are suspended over the LEGO Marvel logo, along with the silhouette of a robot form similar to Iron Man.

Commenters were quick to label the shadowy arms as Doc Ock, with one comment to that effect gaining over 200 likes within a day. However, it's not totally clear if this actually is meant to be Doc Ock and two of his robotic arms, or perhaps Dum-E and U, Tony Stark's robot assistants that help him build his Iron Man suits.

The arm at the bottom left certainly looks like Dum-E, appearing to hold a slanted LEGO tile. Admittedly, the top right arm looks more like a Doc Ock arm with its chunky claws than it does the more streamlined Dum-U, but it's hard to be sure.

The comment section is certainly split, with some arguing that this could be a tease for a Doc Ock bust, while others say it's just a nod to the creation of the Iron Man and Iron Spider busts.

"It’s more likely the robot that helps Tony build the set," wrote gamez.pdf, with trenton_lluellyn agreeing: "It’s the arms assembling Iron Man."

"I know we HOPE it’s Doc Ock, but based off this being a Stark Industries post, I doubt it, unless it’s No Way Home Otto with the Stark arms," added gavin_bionicle.

With the Stark Industries branding throughout all three slides and the robot silhouette head on the final slide alongside the arms, it does seem more likely to be a nod to Dum-E and U than Doc Ock – but never say never!
