The next LEGO The Lord of the Rings set will be 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire, and a host of images have revealed everything you need to see.
After trips to Rivendell and one of two imposing towers, LEGO The Lord of the Rings' modern era is heading to the Shire next in the creatively-named (but undeniably appropriate) 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire. With many exclusive minifigures in a much more peaceful LEGO The Lord of the Rings set, there's plenty of official images to analyse while we wait for this set to launch next month.
Weighing in at 2,017 pieces for £229.99 / $269.99 / €269.99, here's a visual guide to the new LEGO Icons 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire from the hillside, to the furnishings and those new minifigures.
10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire landscaping
Compared to the last LEGO set depicting the Shire – 79003 An Unexpected Gathering – the exterior of 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire is lush and much more natural, teeming with plants and greenery as well as all manner of sloping elements to form the rolling hillside in which the hobbit's homes are located.
The tree on top of the hill is suitably detailed too, and when combined with the fencing, paths and stone wall, it all blends to form one of the best examples of effective LEGO landscaping ever designed.
10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire interior
The interior of 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire is just as detailed, but not quite as expansive, recreating a trio of rooms from the sprawling hillside home – the atrium, the study and the dining room. There's space to pose minifigures in each of the rooms, but since the interior takes up much less space than the outside, it's not quite as massive as you might expect.
Still, the part usage on show is excellent, including pens for melted candles, whips for the framing on the door and various decorated elements to add finishing touches across the interior.
10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire minifigures
Nine minifigures make up the cast of 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire, including Bilbo Baggins, Frodo, Mrs. Proudfoot, Farmer Proudfoot, Merry, Pippin, Rosie, Samwise and Gandalf the Grey. Don't expect any orcs to attack the Shire this time – everyone here is celebrating a special birthday that certainly won't kick off any world-changing events.
Aside from Gandalf, all of the minifigures are hobbits, so expect to pick up plenty of dual-moulded short legs in 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire. Otherwise, some cosy torso prints and many tousled hair pieces are featured in the nine minifigures.
10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire side builds
Unlike 10333 The Lord of the Rings: Barad-dûr and 10316 The Lord of the Rings: Rivendell, the focus in 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire isn't solely on Bag End. There are several side builds to fill out more of the Shire, celebrating Bilbo's birthday party with accurate play features and unique material elements.
From a spinning stage to a fireworks dragon, there's more to 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire than just the home. It's an interesting path for the LEGO designers to take after the last two LEGO The Lord of the Rings sets and their singular focus, but it at least helps it to stand out from the crowd.
10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire launches on April 2 for LEGO Insiders and April 5 for everyone else, and early adopters will receive 40761 The Lord of the Rings: Sméagol and Déagol for free until April 8, or while stocks last.
