LEGO Ideas Train Bookends steams into the third review of 2025

With a number of brick-built bookends having been released in 2025, a new 10K LEGO Ideas submission is tapping into an existing audience.

Some of the most interesting and innovative LEGO sets released this year have been bookends, compact models that can comfortably sit on your shelf, while being filled with all sorts of details to admire. Continuing in that same vein is Train Bookends, a fan-made design from Jerboa that’s just racked up 10K supporters in the third LEGO Ideas review of 2025.

The 1,636-piece build is designed to look like a steam locomotive travelling through a tunnel between three books, an illusion that works extremely well. The train and accompanying carriage both boast a classic design, primarily assembled from black and maroon pieces, with overgrown greenery surrounding the grey tunnel openings.

In addition, the roof of the 'Book Express' and carriage can be removed, allowing for access to their interiors. Despite its size, Train Bookends is indeed minifigure-scale, with the fan-made set including a train driver and two passengers to fill out the model.

While only three brick-built books have been included with the LEGO Ideas submission, it is noted that builders could always add more real books to the display set-up, thereby extending the illusion of the set even further.

For now, we’ll have to wait and see if Train Bookends can build up enough steam to make it any further in the third LEGO Ideas review of 2025, with the results of which sets will become physical models to be released early in the new year.
