LEGO Ideas review adds a dash of culture with Chinese Folding Screen

Chinese Folding Screen is the latest fan submission to make it into the first LEGO Ideas review of 2026 – an homage to the country’s culture and history.

After a quiet couple of days, the first LEGO Ideas review of 2026 has swung back into action, adding yet another fan-made model to its current line-up of 10K sets. Chinese Folding Screen has been assembled by Larry_land1 and recreates a piece of practical furniture that has been used in homes in the country for many centuries.

Measuring over 27cm tall, 10cm deep and 45cm wide, the LEGO Ideas build consists of 2,204 pieces, with hinged elements allowing the set to be folded up and opened, mimicking the functionality of the real furniture.

Traditional Chinese folding screens or (pingfeng) date back to China’s Han dynasty in 200 BCE, often featured beautiful artwork and were utilised to divide rooms. For the LEGO Ideas submission, the designer drew inspiration from four colourful paintings from the Tang and Song dynasties, often referred to as the golden age of Chinese art.

The artwork references Auspicious Cranes (Northern Song dynasty), Court Ladies Adorning Their Hair With Flowers (Tang dynasty), A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains (Northern Song dynasty) and Red and White Cotton Roses (Southern Song dynasty).

Each of Chinese Folding Screen’s brick-built frames incorporates a different 3D image, specifically constructed in order to add depth and shadows to each painting. Intended to be a unique display piece, the LEGO Ideas model is an impressive homage to Chinese culture and history.

The results of the first LEGO Ideas review will be revealed later this year, but for now you can take a look at all of the fan designs currently competing to become potential physicals sets in the table below.
