LEGO Ideas announces Design Student Challenge winners

The winners of a recent LEGO Design Student Challenge have been revealed, with four unique creations interpreting contemporary culture.

Earlier this year, the LEGO Ideas theme offered students over 18 years old the chance to participate in a different kind of contest. The LEGO Design Student Challenge was looking for brick-built creations to interpret contemporary culture in a playful, expressive and exploratory way, with five Grand Prize winners now having been selected from 244 total submissions.

What’s more, the LEGO Ideas challenge prize package also offered students a chance to include their entry as part of their application toward a potential LEGO Design internship in Concept/Model Design.

LEGO Ideas Neo-Anatolian Brew

The first highlight from the LEGO Design Student Challenge is Neo-Anatolian Brew from Photographhere. Sketches for the proposed set recreate the centuries-old traditional Turkish sand coffee ritual, translated into a modern LEGO experience.

LEGO Ideas SMART Play Music Studio

Next is SMART Play Music Studio, created by MiaFSDesign and inspired by interviews and observations of indie music culture and adult LEGO users. The submission represents a modular and customisable music system that incorporates the LEGO SMART Play System's SMART Bricks and Tags.

LEGO Ideas Brick-Built Bag Charm- A LEGO Art Toy

Brick-Built Bag Charm: A LEGO Art Toy has emerged from the mind of hechoentw and is a simple 197-piece model aimed at teens who want to express themselves. The set is intended to be playable and customisable and comes with its own clear travel case with a bag tag.

LEGO Ideas Beyond Perfect

Exploring the idea of constructed identity is MateLoyalPhone104’s Beyond Perfect, a concept that allows users to assemble and reassemble their own identities through modular design. The model features a brick-built stand and frame to create a face using various interchangeable pieces.

LEGO Ideas Harvest Festival

Finally, the LEGO Design Student Challenge selected Harvest Festival by 4CornersE, which shines a spotlight on under-represented rural villages from around the world. The model uses the creator’s South Indian heritage as an anchor, offering a scene set around a three-day festival event, complete with minifigures and animals.

In addition to being in with a chance of securing a LEGO Design internship in Concept/Model Design, each of the Grand Prize winners will also receive copies of 21323 Grand Piano, 21333 Vincent van Gogh – The Starry Night and 21376 Orange Cat.
