LEGO Ideas 21362 Mineral Collection officially revealed

The next LEGO Ideas set bundles together a bunch of shiny rocks (Jesus, Marie) in 21362 Mineral Collection, officially unveiled today ahead of its October release.

Based on a submission by Italian fan designer Dario Del Frate, 21362 Mineral Collection consists of six brick-built minerals and three freestanding display shelves on which to place them. It’s a medley of greatest hits from the mineral world, including golden pyrite, blue fluorite, tangerine quartz, watermelon tourmaline, purple amethyst and reddish-pink rhodochrosite.

All but one of those were in the original pitch too, with Dario’s emerald replaced here by fluorite. His black tourmaline has also had a colour swap, but otherwise this is pretty close to the initial submission. The final model is comprised of 880 pieces and will retail for £54.99 in the UK, $59.99 in the US and from €59.99 in Europe when it goes on sale on October 1.

This is just the latest in a string of brick-built replicas of real-world objects to emerge from the Ideas platform, which also includes the likes of 21323 Grand Piano, 21327 Typewriter, 21332 The Globe and 21345 Polaroid OneStep SX-70 Camera, to name a few.

21362 Mineral Collection is the 70th numbered LEGO Ideas set, and follows hot on the heels of the reveal of 21361 Gremlins: Gizmo, which also arrives October 1 and is available to pre-order from LEGO.com now.
