LEGO Harry Potter sets could be based on new Max TV series

An upcoming Harry Potter TV series likely to start streaming on Max in the US in 2026 could inspire multiple new LEGO sets.

In a recent fourth-quarter earnings call, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav revealed that the company’s long-in-development Harry Potter TV show may be arriving in 2026. The ‘decade-long series’ looks likely to debut on the company’s Max streaming service and would be the first-ever TV adaptation of the seven original books by J.K. Rowling.

Reports regarding a potential Harry Potter TV show first emerged in 2021, with some speculation suggesting Warner Bros. Discovery was planning to produce seven seasons – one for each book. The last Harry Potter movie was released way back in 2011, with fans having to endure three less-than-stellar Fantastic Beasts films since then.

With the announcement of the Harry Potter TV series, fans may also have even more reasons to get excited for a return to the Wizarding World. While no official announcement has been made at this stage, the show’s arrival might well open the doors for a whole raft of new LEGO Harry Potter sets.

First introduced in 2001, the LEGO Harry Potter theme has been one of the company’s most successful (and sometimes controversial) product lines to date, with hundreds of sets and minifigures released so far. As with Star Wars, the appetite and potential for more Wizarding World models is seemingly endless, with new generations of fans being introduced to the franchise every year.

In fact, eight new LEGO Harry Potter sets will be launching as soon as March 1, 2024. Due for release on that day include the likes of 76425 Hedwig at 4 Privet Drive, 76428 Hagrid’s Hut: An Unexpected Visit, 76429 Talking Sorting Hat and more, all of which are available to pre-order right now.

Pure speculation on our part at this point would suggest that 10 years of upcoming planned Harry Potter TV content could potentially give the LEGO theme a huge shot in the arm, possibly offering up new iterations of familiar magical characters and locations.

Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed the Harry Potter TV series will feature an all-new cast and Daniel Radcliffe himself has said he’s 'definitely not seeking it out in any way” as far as appearing in the show.

However, J.K. Rowling is said to be actively involved in the series, with Zaslav commenting, 'We spent some real time with J.K. and her team. Both sides are just thrilled to be reigniting this franchise. Our conversations were great, and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead. We can’t wait to share a decade of new stories with fans around the world on Max.'

Whichever direction the upcoming live-action TV series takes, the smart money would be on more LEGO Harry Potter sets continuing to apparate up to and beyond the arrival of the Max series for many years to come.
