The LEGO Group has seemingly cemented the list of LEGO Harry Potter sets retiring in 2023, and in the process confirmed another year on shelves for the Wizarding World set that just won’t quit.
A total of 17 different LEGO Harry Potter sets are scheduled to leave production by the end of 2023, some of which have already sold out at LEGO.com in some regions (such as 76403 The Ministry of Magic). That list has been locked in for months at this point, and it doesn’t look like any changes are forthcoming as we barrel towards the end of the year, so you can reasonably assume that these are the products to catch before they retire.

If you have your finger on the pulse of the LEGO Harry Potter portfolio, you might have noticed a peculiar absence from that list – a set you could reasonably have expected to have retired already, so seemingly a shoo-in for departing in 2023. But for reasons known only to the LEGO Group (which presumably involve some degree of continued strong sales), 75969 Hogwarts Astronomy Tower lives to be bought another day (and year).

That’s despite the fact it launched at the tail end of the previous modular Hogwarts system in summer 2020, capping off the grey-roofed designs before the theme switched to the current green-roofed format in 2021 – and now stands alone as the last surviving remnant of the older style. It doesn’t connect easily to sets like 76389 Hogwarts Chamber of Secrets and 76398 Hogwarts Hospital Wing, the latter of which is retiring this year. And it doesn’t really fit with them aesthetically, either.
And yet: 75969 Hogwarts Astronomy Tower perseveres. At the time of writing, the LEGO Group has handed it a retirement date of December 31, 2024, which means the 971-piece set will enjoy at least another year in production (though that could well be extended, as these dates are always subject to change). So even while 75954 Hogwarts Great Hall, 75948 Hogwarts Clock Tower and so on have long since retired, you can still buy the Astronomy Tower.
