The exterior facade is packed with references to the Lovegoods' interests, even more so than the interior. 'Keep off the dirrigible plums' warns one sign, and still more plants are seemingly painted on to the side of the house, presumably done by Luna herself.
The rear of the set is left open to allow (admittedly cramped) access to the interior. The floors aren't just lopsided from the outside, but the middle floor is actually tilted to the side, leading to a unique look but also making it even harder to access the inside of the build.
Thankfully, the most interesting room is nestled at the top and is the easiest to engage with. The most memorable characteristic of the Lovegoods' house is Luna's bedroom, painted with golden portraits of all her friends. It's an emotional moment in the book and movie when Harry, Ron and Hermione discover it in Luna's absence. The LEGO version isn't quite as detailed, recreated in a 2x2 stickered tile instead, but it's a nice nod to Luna's artistic rendering of her friends.
Elsewhere in the house, there are bits of Lovegood lore dropped in: you'll wonder what on earth you're building on the second floor, before it all comes together to create a magical printing press, primed with a fresh hot copy of the Quibbler. The Erumpent horn is even stuck to the wall, ready to be used in an explosion to help Harry and the others escape from the Death Eaters.
Bizarrely enough, Ron is missing from the set altogether, despite the fact that he's at the house for its one and only scene in both the books and movies. This could be down to a lack of space (there's only room for two chairs on the lowest level, clearly designed for Harry and Hermione to be sat drinking tea while Xenophilius calls the Death Eater who is included in
To make up for the missing Weasley, we do get Xenophilius Lovegood, Luna's father, making his minifigure debut. A character known for his colourful robes and flowing hair, the details on his torso and leg printing are pretty good, even including the Deathly Hallows pendant hanging from his neck. Considering the drama of the scene that's being recreated, we could have done with a slightly more dramatic secondary face print, but all in all, it's a strong first entry for a relatively minor character.
Also breaking from the canon and perhaps explaining why Ron wasn't included, Luna makes an appearance, despite the fact that she was imprisoned by the time that Harry, Ron and Hermione make it to her house. You can forgive the canon interruption, however, seeing as a Lovegood house LEGO set without both Lovegoods would be frustrating in terms of play opportunities.
