A LEGO gift-with-purchase rumoured for summer 2023 could fix one of the biggest issues with last year’s 90th-anniversary set
According to 1414falconfan (via redditor FluffySky6), a Classic Castle set – around the same size as 2022’s 40567 Forest Hideout – will be available free with qualifying purchases at some point this summer. More specifically, it’s said to be inspired by Majisto, the iconic blue-robed wizard who originally debuted in the ‘90s Dragon Knights subtheme.
Even if you weren’t snapping up LEGO sets left, right and centre in 1993, you’ll probably recognise Majisto (or Merlin, as he was known in some regions) from
While it was great to see ol’ Maj back in the blue for the 4,514-piece set, he wasn’t what you’d call a perfect minifigure – mainly for completely lacking printing. His plain blue torso is at odds with the vintage minifigure, which has a printed open shirt and belt, and feels like a rare oversight in an otherwise near-perfect LEGO Icons set.
The LEGO Group may now be gearing up to right that wrong with the rumoured Majisto gift-with-purchase, which could well bring us a more detailed and impressive modern update to the retro minifigure. We don’t yet have any firm details on what form the set might take, but a remake of 6048 Majisto’s Magical Workshop doesn’t feel too far-fetched.
That 1993 set includes just 185 pieces, and while a modern version would obviously use more elements for a finer level of detail, you can still see it coming in pretty closely to 40567 Forest Hideout in scope and size. It would also allow for a similar number of minifigures to last year’s GWP (two), as 6048 includes a Dragon Knight alongside Majisto – and we’re yet to see the LEGO Group revisit that particular Classic Castle faction in the modern era.
Whatever shape the Majisto 2023 GWP ends up taking (if it exists at all), here’s hoping it seizes the chance to give us an even better Majisto minifigure to replace the one in
